Premiere Ratings: Tim Allen is Comedy's 'Last Man Standing'

by Chris Harnick, posted Oct 12th 2011 12:15PM
Tim Allen, Last Man StandingApproximately 13 million viewers welcomed Tim Allen back to the land of sitcoms on ABC's 'Last Man Standing.'

The premiere also had a decent showing in the 18-49 demographic, a 3.5 rating. It's a healthy start for the new sitcom that stars Allen as Mike Baxter, a "manly man" who's going through changes in his job and suddenly finds himself with a lot more time for family. Nancy Travis also stars as Vanessa Baxter.

The show has been panned by critics -- including AOL TV's own Maureen Ryan who put it on her list of the 10 least promising shows of the season -- but that didn't stop viewer interest in the throwback sitcom. 'Last Man Standing' bested last season's Tuesdays at 8PM timeslot holder 'No Ordinary Family.' The family superhero show debuted to 10.7 million viewers and a 3.2 rating.

'Last Man Standing' is just one of a few new comedies that have kicked off to strong ratings. The premiere of CBS's '2 Broke Girls' was watched by 19.2 million viewers -- helped by Ashton Kutcher's 'Two and a Half Men' debut -- and has continued to pull double digits, averaging around 11 million viewers an episode. Fox's 'New Girl' was watched by 10.3 million viewers despite having close to 2 million streams via early release.

In 1991, Allen's 'Home Improvement' averaged 16.1 million viewers in its first season.

O Nikos

Maureen putting it in her bad list, undoubtedly gave it a boost. I guess I better check that list (I missed it the first time around) to see what other quality shows I might have missed.
