'Cougar Town' Stars Will Crossover to Other Shows

by Chris Harnick, posted Oct 13th 2011 10:35AM
Courteney Cox Crossover'Cougar Town' is still benched until midseason, but the show has hatched a creative plan to keep the cul-de-sac crew on TV.

According to USA Today, the cast will be popping up on more than a dozen shows as uncredited background actors. Starting on Thurs., Oct.13 the cast will be infiltrating shows across several networks. Look for Ian Gomez to kick things off at 9PM ET on 'Grey's Anatomy' and Courteney Cox and Christa Miller to play a lesbian couple at a fertility clinic on 'Private Practice' at 10PM ET on ABC.

Series co-creator Bill Lawrence said the cameos were designed to promote the show.

"I thought it was hysterical," Cox said. "Bill and the writers have always been great about figuring out ways to keep people aware of our show even when we're not on TV." Cox has already been doing her part and appearing in the audience of 'Dancing With the Stars.'

So far 13 shows are game for the cameos, but Lawrence told USA Today he's hoping to have more than 20 participating. In addition to 'Grey's,' 'Private Practice' and 'Dancing,' look for 'Cougar Town' actors to pop up on ABC's 'Body of Proof,' 'Castle,' 'Man Up!' and 'The Middle.' Actors will also appear on 'How I Met Your Mother' and Nick Jr.'s 'Yo Gabba Gabba!' Cameos on NBC's 'Parenthood' and CBS's '2 Broke Girls' are also in the works.

This isn't the first time 'Cougar Town' stars have done crossovers. Last season, series stars Dan Byrd and Busy Phillips appeared as background characters on 'Community,' a nod to the NBC show's running story about Danny Pudi's characters' love of the series. Pudi himself also appeared in an episode of 'Cougar Town.'

"Hopefully, it will be kind of a game for our fans and remind people we're still around and coming back soon enough," Lawrence said.

Cougar Town is hilarious. Penny Can has served it`s purpose and maybe was getting a tad stale, but cancellation? A complete abomination. I must be quirky because it seems the shows I like a lot get cancelled within a few seasons. Geeze. Looking forward to 2013.

ABC needs to quit screwing around & get "Cougar Town" BACK on!! It's a great show, & unfortunately "Happy Endings" SUX!! I wanted that show to work, with the stunning Elisha Cuthbert well worth seeing but, it has been VERY disappointing this season!

This is a comment on the "What's wrong with Lindsay Lohan's teeth" article, for which the 'comments' were cowardly closed after only 12 entries. What's wrong with just leaving this woman alone before she becomes yet another dead celebrity? The fact that the 'comments' were closed begs the question; why? Conscience on the part of Huffpost? Not likely. I write for a small local newspaper and seek out positive aspects of the people, places, and history of the community and topics that my neighbors may find to be of interest. I stand for what I write. Though not highly educated or certified in the profession, my ideals do not include verbally beating people to death to advance my position or standing as 'journalist'. Whatever Ms. Lohan has or has not done with her life or personal hygeine, do we all need to bark with the same pack of jackals who dog these people to their demise only to later proclaim, "what a tragedy?" I am not defending or promoting her excesses or lifestyle, just pointing out the blatant hypocracy of those who feed from the carcasses of those still living. Go home, brush your own teeth (floss lately?) and if Ms lohan and/or orher 'celebs' outlive you, they may have the last laugh. Is your own house in order? Perhaps we should open an intelligent dialogue on the lack of journalistic integrity of the tabloid, Huffpost.

ABC tends to beat a dead horse. Stop making Sue on The Middle such a punching bag. Focus on Brick more. Stop making Axel such a complete dick. Put Frankie BACK in her job. Bring back Chris Cataan. I was even happy watching the re-runs over and over. This season - ABC does what it usually does and fires the good writers, and screws their own success. WHY?!?!?!

Bring BACK Cougar Town already! I love the sweet interplay of the characters and the way they care about each other. Suburgatory & Happy Endings suck. I though they would be good. The writing has gone down hill on The Middle & Modern Family. They need to bering those shows back to what they were! Stop the meanness - bring back the heart. What about Cam & Mitchell's new baby? NO MENTION of it yet. Clair has gone off the rails. The basketball thing on MF was painful this week!

Why just primetime? Go stand in the crowd at GMA, be in the waiting room on 'General Hospital' - spread the wealth!

i really think cougar town sucks & anyway why should we be wasting money on shows like this when instead of wasting money & time on shows (that hurt our eyes anyway) we could be exersizing & having a much happier & healthier place
