Roseanne Barr Relives National Anthem Controversy on 'The Rosie Show' (VIDEO)
Recently, Roseanne Barr found redemption of sorts when she sang the national anthem on her reality show, 'Roseanne's Nuts.' She talked about that experience, and her infamous 1990 rendition, which spurred a national controversy, on 'The Rosie Show' (Weeknights, 7PM ET on OWN).Barr took us inside her mind doing those short moments that caused such a stir. "Well they started booing about three notes into it," she said. "You can't walk off the field when you're in the middle of the national anthem, so I knew I had to finish it. So I tried to make it funny."
It didn't work, as Barr was vilified in the press, and even had President George H. Bush calling her a disgrace. Rosie O'Donnell tried to talk about how that impacted her young children at the time, but Barr was just happy that everyone came through it and she got a chance to try again.
