Univision Picks Up Jennifer Lopez & Marc Anthony's New Talent Competition Series
The leading Spanish-language network Univision, recently picked up '¡Q'Viva! The Chosen,' a Latin American reality talent competition from 'American Idol' creator Simon Fuller, Jennifer Lopez, her soon-to-be ex-husband Marc Anthony and show director Jamie King. (How do you say "awkward" in Spanish?)"Very soon the world's heart will beat to the tune of Latin rhythms and we're looking forward to experiencing history in the making, Lopez said in a statement. "It is with great pride that we embark on this amazing and very personal mission to discover and celebrate the most captivating talent the world has ever seen."
The show, produced by Fuller's XIX Entertainment, has sealed network deals in three countries thus far. It will air on Univision in the United States, Televisa in Mexico and Caracol TV in Colombia.
'The Chosen' will follow Lopez, Anthony and King as they travel through Latin America in search of the most compelling talent in a variety of disciplines, including singing and dancing, with the aid of social media giants YouTube and Facebook. Back in June, the general public was allowed to submit suggestions for talent via Facebook, and the hopeful performers could submit their auditions on YouTube.
The talent competition is currently being filmed in three languages: English, Spanish and Portuguese. It's expected to air in 21 countries in early 2012.
"There's never been a show that is both global and local in scope," King said. "When '¡Q'Viva! The Chosen' airs on these networks millions of people in each country will not only see something unique to their region but will also be unified by the experience."
