What to Watch: Oct 17 - 23

Recipe to Riches - Wednesday October 19, 9 PM ET/PT, Food Network Canada

Hosted by 'Bachelor' Jesse Palmer, this new series has 21 home-cook contestants competing to create a recipe that can be mass produced, preserved and sold in grocery stores. Instead of conducting their R&D in labs or test kitchens or what-have-you, Jane's Family Foods is doing it on TV, offering a $250,000 prize to the winner, and reaping millions of dollars in promotional opportunities. In fact, you'll be able to taste the recipes in your local Loblaw, and Galen Weston will be stopping in as a guest judge to make sure his company gets plenty of air time too.

Also This Week:

America's Next Top Model - Wednesday October 19, 9 PM ET, CW/CTV Two

I keep meaning to tune in for the all-star edition of this venerable show but there are so many new shows to check out, I keep missing it. It does make me laugh that the episode teasers now describe the contestants as 'women' instead of 'girls' for the first time. That's how you know they're too old to actually model. This week, they play football with pro ballers, and that becomes what I'm sure will be a whacked-out photo shoot. Those who do best get the chance to pose alongside Canadian model Coco Rocha.

Modern Family - Wednesday October 19, 9 PM ET/PT, Citytv/ABC

Phil takes Haley on a college tour of his alma mater, and while he's gone, Claire convinces Mitchell and Cam to take her bar hopping. Meanwhile, Gloria and Jay discover Manny may be ready for 'the talk'.

Canada's Walk of Fame Awards - Sunday October 23, 8 PM ET/PT, Global,

Host Howie Mandel MCs as musician Burton Cummings, actor Sandra Oh, comedian Russell Peters and late novelist Mordecai Richler are inducted. Their accomplishments, dubious and otherwise -- ahem Sandra Oh -- will be entirely eclipsed by the shrieking of young girls as Justin Bieber performs. Oh, and Drake will also get some kind of award.
