Marvel's 'Punisher' Could Be Heading to Fox

by Chris Harnick, posted Oct 21st 2011 11:50AM
Punisher FoxMarvel Comics' resident violent anti-hero Frank Castle, aka 'The Punisher,' could be heading to the small screen.

After three flop movies (one in 1989, another in 2004 and the last one in 2008), Marvel and Fox are working on bringing the vigilante to TV. The network has ordered a pilot based on the comic series. According to EW, 'Criminal Minds' executive producer Ed Bernero is working on the project.

The character first debuted in 'The Amazing Spider-Man' comic in 1974. In the series, Frank Castle becomes a murderous vigilante after the death of his family at the hands of the mob.

EW reports the TV version of Frank Castle will be a detective by day, Punisher by night. The comic book's gritty subject matter make it seem like it'd be a better fit for FX -- think 'The Shield' -- but Fox has been known to take chances on risky projects.

Thomas Jane, Ray Stevenson and Dolph Lundgren have portrayed the anti-hero in the film versions.

No word on casting for the pilot yet.

HuffPost is a bunch of crap. Any story that they can print to make Fox look bad you will see it. Wheather it has merit or not. JUst like that story about Cain looking bad for the comments that he has made. How many comments has Obama made that look bad and how many times have you seen them pointed out by Ms. Huffington.

Uh ohhhh all the crazy folks will think this new show is what caused a school massacre!!!! So pathetic how people think because their is violence in a tv show its going to make a person go on a rampage. Listen here, people that go on rampages are sick and mentally ill!!!! I and everyone i know watch the most violent of violent movies and don't even think about causing harm to others. I'm so sick and tired of people thinking that movies and video games cause violence. Ill tell you what causes violence is all the worthless people breeding in this country!! Worthless parents that can't raise a child if their lives depended on it! Most the people in the United States should be spayed and neutered (I know this goes for dogs and cats, its a joke)!!! The world isnt like it used to be, wish i could go back in time and grow up in the 60's or 70's!!!

After his recent speech, I would vote for Joe Biden to play the punisher.

Just what we need on TV --- for the people to see, be good by day and take the law into your own hands the rest of the time or vice versa. Too many shoot em up crime shows on the tube these days anyway. To think that people wonder why there is so much crime these days? Thats all you see on TV along with stupid reality shows and dancing shows.

The problem is the name. "The Punisher" has no ring to it and only sounds stupid, kind of like the "Houston Texans".
