A New Home and Inspiration to Walk Again for Brian Keefer on 'Extreme Makeover' (VIDEO)
After a horrible accident during a simple backflip, Brian Keefer's world was turned upside down. Now he's paralyzed from the neck down, but determined to walk again. That determination and the sacrifices his family have made on his behalf lured the 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' (Fri., 8PM ET on ABC) to Pennsylvania to help give him the tools he needs to make that dream a reality. And to help with inspiration, they found other people who've accomplished already some of the things Brian is fighting for. Patrick Rummerfield is one of the most famous stories, and one of Brian's idols as he's regained full use of his body after a 1974 accident left him paralyzed.
Dan Cummings was injured in 2000, and recently walked a mile as proof that will is such a big part of the recovery. Cummings was on hand for the reveal, where he showed Brian what he'd already accomplished, and what he knows Brian will be doing soon as well.
To facilitate Brian's progress, the team built him an aquatherapy pool in the house, as well as several tools to allow him unprecedented independence, giving his father, who is also his full-time caregiver, a bit of free time as well.
