Rachel Maddow Worries Drone Warfare Could Cause Americans to Dissociate From War (VIDEO)

Rachel Maddow, 'Real Time With Bill Maher'"When we decide as a nation to go to war, it shouldn't be: We're sending the military to war," Rachel Maddow said on 'Real Time With Bill Maher' (Fri., 10PM ET on HBO). "The country should feel like we are at war."

Her concern is that by distancing our men from the dangers of war might distance Americans from the very fact that we are at war. It's certainly an interesting argument, though the counter-argument could be made that Americans have been disconnected from the fact that we are at war right now now and that soldiers are in danger every day.

Maybe she thinks it will simply get worse, though that's an odd argument against finding a safer way to fight a war. How do you tell soldiers that they need to risk their lives, even if there is a safer way to do it, simply so more people back home will care about the war?

Maybe she's trying argue that if war becomes too easy and too safe for America to get involved in, then we'll have less incentive to avoid it. Right now, when we know that our men and women are dying, then we as a country should believe in what we're fighting for. If you take away our involvement, then we may find ourselves intervening far more often, and perhaps when we shouldn't.
