FX Acquires Charlie Sheen's 'Anger Management'

Charlie Sheen FX Anger ManagementIs Charlie Sheen's winning streak back on? The former 'Two and a Half Men' star just got a new job.

Sheen will return to TV next summer in 'Anger Management' -- a small-screen adaptation of the Adam Sandler/Jack Nicholson comedy from 2003 -- FX Networks president John Landgraf announced today.

FX has ordered 10 episodes of sitcom 'Anger Management,' with production set to begin in early 2012. Writer-producer Bruce Helford will act as executive producer and showrunner.

But we're not just talking about one season -- if the show is a hit, FX will pick up an additional 90 episodes under a unique syndication model crafted by Lionsgate-owned distributor Debmar-Mercury for multiple Tyler Perry sitcoms and Revolution's and Ice Cube's 'Are We There Yet?' The series will air exclusively on FX until the off-network episodes start airing in broadcast syndication in fall 2014.

"We think that Bruce Helford, Joe Roth and Charlie Sheen have come up with a wonderful, hilarious vehicle for Charlie's acting talents -- and a character we are very much looking forward to seeing him play," said Landgraf, President and General Manager, FX Networks. "'Two and a Half Men' has been an outstanding component of FX's schedule for the past 14 months, and we have every confidence that 'Anger Management' will soon be as well."

Sheen -- who helped spearhead the project, which he'll be starring in and also acting as producer on -- will retain a significant ownership stake in the series inspired by the film.

The premise: An anger management therapist, who may need more counseling than his patients, wreaks havoc on the lives of his patients through his unconventional methods.

"I have been fortunate to work with Charlie Sheen on six hit films," said Roth, who previously produced Sheen films like 'Major League.' "Now to have Charlie, the number one comedy star on TV, doing 'Anger Management,' feels like a perfect fit. And I could not be happier than being back at Fox with John Landgraf and Chuck Saftler."

"We were very gratified by the high level of interest in 'Anger Management' from across the industry," commented Marcus and Bernstein. "Ultimately, we felt FX's track record for airing daring and distinctive shows would provide the perfect home for a sitcom headlined by one of the most successful sitcom stars of all time and produced by Joe Roth."

Sheen, who has starred in more than 40 feature films in his decades-long career, became known to television audiences through his Golden Globe Award-winning lead role in 'Spin City.' In 2003, Sheen was cast as Charlie Harper in the CBS sitcom 'Two and a Half Men,' a role that garnered him an ALMA Award and four Emmy nominations, as well as two Golden Globe nominations for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series.

After some troubling incidents in his private life followed by a very public meltdown, Sheen has used his more recent public appearances (like at the Emmys) to apologize to his former castmates on 'Two and a Half Men.' Although after his lawsuit with former boss Chuck Lorre and 'Men' studio Warner Bros. was dropped last month, Sheen has changed his tune a bit. Just this week, he was quoted as saying he's "extremely disappointed" in the 'Men' reboot starring Ashton Kutcher.

What do you think: Are you happy to have Charlie Sheen returning to TV? Or do you think it's a dumb idea to hire him after what happened on 'Men'?

Just don't understand the Sheen lovers. The difference between other actors with the same issue is that Sheen makes working with him extremely difficult and he beats the girls he dates. Also, he makes more of a public scene then anyone else.

I think sheen has been a decent actor. I used to like him. But Ive really grown tired of his act... hisover inflated ego and sense of entitlement. Maybe it'll take killing someone, whether with a knife, gun or driving drunk for people to realize he is not to be admired or respected. I hope his sitcom fails big time. I really, really do.

The fact so many of you are literally excited about his return to TV though is just baffling to me.

CHARLIE SHEEN WILL BE WONDERFUL IN ANGER MANAGMENT, IT'S MADE FOR HIM, SO WHATS THE DIFFERENCE IN HIM AND OTHER ACTORS WHO HAVE STRESS PROBLEMS OR DRINKING PROBLEMS OR DRUG PROBLEMS THEY HAVE TO GAIN CONTROL AND CONQUER THEIR DEMONS, I KNOW I DID AND THERE'S NOTHING BETTER THAN FEELING YOU ARE IN CONTROL OF YOURSELF. YOU GO CHARLIE AND IT LOOKS LIKE HE HAS A HEAD START WITH BEING IN THE DRIVERS SEAT WITH PRODUCING.
AS FOR 2 AND A HALF MEN, IT WAS GREAT WHILE CHARLIE WAS ON, BUT KUTCHER, PLEEEEEZZZZZZ WHAT A DUD, THIS GUY CAN'T ACT JUST LOOK AT ALL HIS OTHER MOVIES, HE IS A SOCIAL CLIMBER MARRIED DEMI AND WENT FROM THERE. DEMI YOUR BETTER OFF WITHOUT HIM, LOVED ALL HER MOVIES SHE IS AN ACTOR NOT HIM...

I'm so glad to hear that Charlie Sheen is coming back to t,v, Can't wait for his new show. I loved Two and A Half Men when he was on it. It's just not as good without Charlie. It's kind of boring now. I hope he has the actress who played Rose in his new show. Good Luck Charlie!!
