Countdown To Glee's 300th Song: Who Should Sing What?

by Crystal Bell, posted Nov 1st 2011 11:00AM
When we heard that 'Glee' was celebrating its upcoming 300th musical number with a special diva mash-up, we could hardly contain our excitement. We all have our own personal favorite numbers from the show, but seeing what's to come between now and milestone number 300? Well, there are just too many musical possibilities there not to get our minds into full casting mode.

In honor of the show's return (Tues., Nov. 1, 8PM ET on Fox), AOL TV decided to offer some free advice to the showrunners -- we mapped out who should sing the tracks leading up to lucky No. 300, laying out some possible new plot points as well.

We already know some of the answers, but for the rest we used our encyclopedia of 'Glee' knowledge to recommend the optimal vocalists for each upcoming track. Take a look ...

285. Being Green
Who Will Sing It: Rory
Need we say more? Rory's Irish and singing about being green. This might just be the most literal interpretation of a song in 'Glee' history.

286. Last Friday Night
Who Will Sing It: Blaine
Blaine -- along with some minor harmonizing from Artie -- carries yet another solo track in Season 3, and it's another hit Katy Perry tune. Should Rachel be upset about Blaine getting so many leading lady solos? Because it seems to us like New Directions has found its new golden child.

287. Candy Man
Who Will Sing It: Mercedes & Santana
We're really starting to love this Mercedes and Santana friendship. They're both major divas who can saanngg their hearts out and they both have a little bit of a witchy side, if you know what we mean. Looks like Shelby's glee club is going to give the New Directions some serious competition.

288. Waiting For A Girl Like You
Who Will Sing It: Puck
We know Puck is singing this one, but we wonder who he's singing about. Now that his fling with Zizes is finally dunzo, we think Puck is moving on to older women ... like Shelby.

289. Take Care Of Yourself
Who Will Sing It: Rory
Irish foreign-exchange student Rory has definitely put himself on the gleek map with this show-stopping slow number, featuring a jaw-dropping falsetto that's going to give Kurt a bit of a panic attack. We have to agree with Rachel on this one: He's magical.

290. Tonight
Who Should Sing It: Rachel
The upcoming episodes of 'Glee' are going to be packed with songs from 'West Side Story,' McKinley High's spring musical. And let's face it -- after begrudgingly letting Tina have the 'Tonight' solo in Season 1, there's no way Rachel's going to let another Maria moment slip through her fingers.

291. Uptown Girl
Who Should Sing It: The Warblers
We all know that Blaine's going to be spending some extra time with his former Dalton Academy buddies soon, and is there really a more appropriate Dalton ditty than 'Uptown Girl'? We can see them now, practicing their turns, side steps and fancy footwork to the Billy Joel classic. This would also be the perfect time for new character Sebastian to seduce impress Blaine.

292. A Boy Like That
Who Should Sing It: Santana & Rachel
Here's another 'West Side Story' classic that would be perfect for these two battling divas, who'll get to spend the number doing what they love most: trying to out-perform each other.

293. America
Who Should Sing It: Santana, Puck, Brittany, Tina & Rory
This will be kind of perfect in a few ways: Santana's going to go full-on Lima Heights on that stage, Brittany's going to bust some major moves, Puck's going to have an extremely sexy accent and we can only imagine how Rory's cross-Atlantic perspective will come into play.

294. One Hand, One Heart
Who Should Sing It: Blaine & Rachel
As much as it pains us to say this, Blaine and Rachel do sound pretty great together -- we can't think of a couple better suited to play Tony and Maria. We can already picture Kurt fuming as he watches Blaine and Rachel nailing their romantic duet.

295. Hot For Teacher
Who Should Sing It: Puck
If anyone's going to sing a Van Halen song on 'Glee,' it had better be Puck, especially after they shut him out of 'Jump!' in Season 1. Could the selection of this song mean that Puck is indeed forming a romantic interest in rival glee club coach Shelby? Hey, what would a teen drama be without a romp-with-teacher story line?

296. You and I/You and I
Who Should Sing It: Blaine & Kurt
This isn't going to be Kurt's happiest season. After losing the lead in the musical to his boyfriend and then having to deal with another Warbler trying to destroy his relationship, he and the Klaine faithful will need a little something to hold out hope for. While we can't say what the other 'You and I' will be (may we request Stevie Wonder's amazingly sappy 'You and I (We Can Conquer the World)'?), we all know that Kurt loves Lady Gaga. That's fair warning to anyone who tries to take this mash-up away from him.

297. Hit Me With Your Best Shot/One Way Or Another
Who Should Sing It: Rachel, Santana, Mercedes, Quinn, Tina & Brittany
Think if it as an infamous 'Glee' diva-off, only much bigger -- and nastier. After joining Shelby's new glee club, we can totally see Mercedes, Santana and Brittany starting a girl-power sing-off with Rachel, Quinn and Tina. I'm gonna getcha, getcha, getcha, getcha ... fire away!

298. Oklahoma!
Who Should Sing It: Coach Bieste
We know that Coach Bieste is getting her first solo this season, and there's really no better song for our Bieste than 'Oklahoma!' It's completely in her range, and Bieste has been known to rock the cowboy-hat-and-boots look on special occasions. Yeehaw!

299. Hall and Oats Mash-Up
Who Should Sing It: Rachel, Finn and the remaining members of New Directions
'500 Days of Summer' already revived/reintroduced 'You Make My Dreams.' Instead, we'd love for the remaining New Directions members to finally tell Mr. Schue just how 'Out of Touch' he is. The 'Maneater' of the group should probably get a little telling off, too.

300. Adele Mash-up: Rumor Has It/Someone Like You
Who Will Sing It: Santana & Mercedes
We already know that Santana, Mercedes and Shelby's new all-girl glee club are totally going to own this diva-fied Adele mash-up, but we really can't wait to see those two in action.

OMG, "Oklahoma" might be coming up on Glee??? Why WOULDN'T Blaine sing that one?

And I'm happy that a Pat Benatar song might be in the show but I'm a bit queasy at a mashup. I'd rather have a Pat Benatar song like "We Live For Love" and have Quinn sing it.

And I have a much better out-divaing song but I think they already did this one: "Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better" from "Annie Get Your Gun".
