'Dancing With the Stars' Week 7: Hope's Redemption & Ricki's Back On Top

It was a good night to be Hope Solo. After an embarrassing night on the dance floor during last week's 'Dancing With the Stars,' and the very public fallout between her partner Maks and judge Len Goodman, Hope proved that she could once again have fun in the ballroom. Meanwhile, Maks was purposely quiet on the dance floor, but even more self-righteous than ever in rehearsals. This week, all three judges praised Hope and Maks' sexy werewolf samba. Perhaps they didn't want to upset the big bad wolf like they did last week? For one of the first times ever, Hope looked like she was finally having a good time on the dance floor -- but it didn't look that way during rehearsals.
In fact, it looked pretty painful.
Maks had a bum toe and, apparently, that meant that he couldn't dance during rehearsals, but he could dress like a werewolf and boss Hope around from the sidelines. Meanwhile, their samba was the perfect redemption after last week's calamity.
The dance floor fog was a pretty good tactic on Maks' part. You can't criticize Hope's footwork if you can't see it! The critics loved Hope's samba, even saying that it was her best dance yet. However, Maks stayed pretty quiet throughout the judging, only speaking (or showing any emotion, really) after Brooke asked him a question.
During this week's performances, there were werewolves, vampires, ghosts, witches, giant spiders and even spooky magicians, but nothing could be scarier than Maks, whose poor attitude during rehearsals wasn't doing him any favors when it came to voting.
This week also marked the first time the remaining six dancers split into two teams for an additional group dance number, which would be scored by the judges and added to their totals. It was J.R., David and Nancy with their disturbing tango vs. Ricki, Rob and Hope with their chilly pasodoble.
And while it looked like captain J.R. was at a disadvantage, with both David and Nancy on his tango team, in my opinion, J.R.'s team totally rocked it. However, the judges didn't agree; Len, in particular, thought their individual parts were terribly weak, scoring a poor 23 overall. Meanwhile, team pasodoble was having a few issues in rehearsals. OK, there was really only one issue: Maks. I'm pretty sure the way he started throwing Hope around like a rag doll could be considered borderline abusive. Seriously! I used to be a Maks fan, but he's been less-than-gentlemanly toward Hope.
Good thing Derek took the time to properly show Hope the choreography. Just because Maks wears a scarf during almost every dance does not make him sweet and sensitive. In fact, I think he needs a pretty big attitude check.
And yet again, here's where I see the judges playing favorites again. The judges found team
Does anyone else notice that when Hope and Maks dance, it looks like they're competing against each other? Yeah, if you can't tell, I think it's finally time to put Hope out of her misery.
Now, onto the individual dances of the night. All eyes were on Rob Kardashian -- OK, more like Rob's family. For all of you hoping to see Kim Kardashian in the audience tonight, sadly the recently separated Kim had more important things to do, like fly to Australia. It seemed like just last week Kim and Kris were in the audience looking all lovey-dovey rooting for Rob. Oh wait, that's because it was just last week. Poor brokenhearted Kris Humphries ... there's always Season 14 of 'DWTS.'
In absence of Kim K., we did get to see the adorably cute BABY MASON! Way to detour the bad press, Kardashians. Cute babies dressed as Indians always do the trick.
Even though Kim wasn't there to wish her little bro good luck, it looked like he didn't really need it -- this was probably Rob's best dance yet. And no, I'm not lying. Week after week, Rob wins the award for most improved, and after this week's performance, I can't wait to see to what Rob and Cheryl (a.k.a. the lost Kardashian) bring to the dance floor next week.
On another note, Rob should never wear those gray sweatpants ever again. Burn them, Rob ... burn them.
Meanwhile, David Arquette and Kym danced a super fun cha cha. As Len put it, there were "lots of tricks and lots of treats." David has really proven himself as the life of the show this season.
If David goes this week, then who are we going to have to make this show even remotely entertaining? Who else will dance with a prop skeleton?! Of course we still have Nancy, but she makes the show entertaining for different reasons.
Then there was J.R. Martinez and Karina's less-than-stellar-but-still-entertaining 'Ghostbusters' tango. Looks like J.R. and Karina had a rough rehearsal week, but it was nothing a little hug from J.R. couldn't fix. Is it any wonder why I root for this guy?! However, Len called his performance "sub-standard," telling the veteran that "he forgot to work on his feet" this week. Instead, J.R. had a little too much "razzamatazz." And you know what happens when you have too much razzamatazz -- you become the new Carson Kressley.
To be honest, as much as I love J.R., I have to agree with the judges. This wasn't my favorite performance from him, and I think a lot of it had to do with the song choice. After all, the theme from 'Ghostbusters' doesn't necessarily scream tango.
Side note: Did anyone else spot Ricki a little less-than-pleased after J.R. and Karina's routine? Maybe she was in pain because of her ribs? Or was she feeling the pressure?
Speaking of Ricki Lake, can anyone stop Ricki and Derek from total dance floor domination? Thing week, Ricki danced a creepy Little Red Riding Hood-themed pasodoble. What can I say? She may not be my favorite, but she looked gorgeous on that dance floor. She had a little problem with her shoulders -- in her defense, she was injured! -- but her lines were lovely, and that's what I always enjoy about Ricki's performances. More than anyone else, she has really clean lines.
However, I half-expected the judges to say something about Derek's nearly shirtless costume. After all, they don't seem to like it when Maks shows too much skin, but I can't see the judges ever reprimanding their golden child.
Meanwhile, Nancy Grace is looking fabulous. Yeah, I said it. She must be losing some serious weight in that rehearsal room because she's looking considerably fitter this week. Now her jive? Not so fabulous. She didn't really follow Tristan's choreography, and she lost her footing quite a few times, resulting in a very poor ballroom performance.
However, when it comes of fan bases, I can't think of anyone who has a larger platform and more dedicated fan base than Nancy, so I think she's here to stay. OK, all I really care about is Tristan, and I want him to stay for as long as possible. Don't judge me.
Also, does anyone else think Nancy should dye her hair darker after this week's performance?
Judges side note: Sometimes Bruno's dramatic remarks are amusing and other times, I just wish he would put less boy in flamboyant. You know what I mean?!
