Jimmy Kimmel Will Host White House Correspondents' Dinner

Jimmy KimmelLate-night host and comedian Jimmy Kimmel has been tapped to host next year's prestigious White House Correspondents' Association dinner, People reports.

The event -- attended by the President, the First Lady and a host of other government officials, political journalists and prerequisite celebrity guests -- will take place on April 28, 2012 in Washington, D.C., with proceeds going towards funding scholarships for aspiring journalists.

"I look forward to being a part of the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner," Kimmel said in a statement. "I love dinner."

"Jimmy's humor is sophisticated and edgy while appealing to a wide audience," said Caren Bohan, a journalist for Reuters and president of the White House Correspondents' Association. "We are thrilled that Jimmy has accepted our invitation to be the featured comedian at our annual dinner."

Kimmel has big shoes to fill after Seth Meyers' razor sharp performance last year -- the 'SNL' comedian had the audience in stitches after launching a barrage of barbs at Donald Trump (who was also in attendance), following the mogul's repeated demands to see President Obama's birth certificate in the media.

Previous hosts have included Jay Leno (2010), Wanda Sykes (2009), Craig Ferguson (2008), Rich Little (2007) and Stephen Colbert (2006), who pulled no punches when it came to roasting President Bush.

Coverage of the 2012 dinner will air on C-SPAN.

Do you think Kimmel will make a good host for the Correspondents' Dinner?
