Kris Humphries Gets Nothing in Kim Kardashian Divorce, But Was Kim Having Second Thoughts?
There's nothing like an acrimonious celebrity divorce to put things into perspective; if soulmates like Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries can't make it work, what hope is there for the rest of us?Everyone has a theory as to why the couple split after just 72 days of wedded bliss (we think their union was just bad for business), but TMZ is now reporting that Kardashian was still agonizing over the decision as late as Sunday night, changing her mind about filing the paperwork several times.
The alleged reason she finally went through with it? Because she was angry that Humphries had hired a Hollywood publicist to represent him, despite his protestations that he wanted a simple life in Minnesota. As she reportedly told a friend, "He's not in f*****g Hollywood, he plays sports!"
We're guessing she's feeling pretty good about insisting on an ironclad prenup before saying "I do," since the site also reports that Humphries won't get anything from Kardashian in the divorce -- not even the engagement ring.
The prenup supposedly keeps all assets separate, which is good news for Kardashian, whose net worth is estimated at $35 million, while Humphries makes a comparatively modest $3.2 million annually from his contract with the New Jersey Nets. And then there's the NBA lockout to consider ...
Worse for him, Humphries can't even make a claim for the engagement ring, since California law dictates that the ring is property of the bride following the wedding, and many have speculated that Kardashian -- or perhaps even the Kardashians' network, E! -- paid for the $2 million, 20.5-carat jewel, not Humphries.
If that's the case, it would make Humphries' decision to hire a publicist a little more logical; without the hefty Kardashian kash-flow at his disposal, attempting to capitalize on his fame while he's still in the spotlight seems like a sensible move, especially since the lockout shows no sign of being resolved. His purported plan involves endorsements, fragrances and nightclub appearances, but if that truly was the last straw for Kardashian, it seems a little hypocritical, given the family's myriad methods of profiting from their visibility. Maybe the pair were made for each other after all?
Should Kris Humphries get to keep the engagement ring if he bought it, or do you think Kim splashed the cash on herself? Was it really Kris' hiring of a publicist that ended the marriage? Weigh in below.
