Kris Jenner in Hot Water Over 'Indian Giver' Comment
Kris Jenner is under fire for the "Indian giver" remark she made on 'Good Morning America.'Jenner was on the show promoting her book, 'Kris Jenner and All Things Kardashian,' and doing damage control following Kim Kardashian's very public divorce after 72 days of marriage.
When asked if Kim would be giving the ring back, Jenner replied, "Well, I hate an Indian giver. Don't you? I mean, it's a gift. Keep your gift."
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Jenner's use of the phrase "Indian giver," has offended the National Congress of American Indians, the country's largest Native American group.
"Once again American Indians and Alaska Natives have been misrepresented by a single misinformed statement," Jacqueline Johnson Pata, executive director of the National Congress of American Indians, said in a statement.
"The phrase 'Indian giving' is wrong and hurtful," she said. "The cultural values of Native Americans are based on giving unconditionally and empowering those around them. Instead this cultural value is forgotten when negative stereotyping of Native people occurs."
