Kris Jenner in Hot Water Over 'Indian Giver' Comment

by Chris Harnick, posted Nov 5th 2011 11:45AM
Kris JennerKris Jenner is under fire for the "Indian giver" remark she made on 'Good Morning America.'

Jenner was on the show promoting her book, 'Kris Jenner and All Things Kardashian,' and doing damage control following Kim Kardashian's very public divorce after 72 days of marriage.

When asked if Kim would be giving the ring back, Jenner replied, "Well, I hate an Indian giver. Don't you? I mean, it's a gift. Keep your gift."

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Jenner's use of the phrase "Indian giver," has offended the National Congress of American Indians, the country's largest Native American group.

"Once again American Indians and Alaska Natives have been misrepresented by a single misinformed statement," Jacqueline Johnson Pata, executive director of the National Congress of American Indians, said in a statement.

"The phrase 'Indian giving' is wrong and hurtful," she said. "The cultural values of Native Americans are based on giving unconditionally and empowering those around them. Instead this cultural value is forgotten when negative stereotyping of Native people occurs."

Please stop playing the race card over every little thing. I am getting sick of hearing about Natives being so sensitive over comments that a lot of people experience every day with work, applying for jobs, funding for school ect. You thing we don't feel discriminated against too? Get over yourselves....

It's not a "gift". A ring is a promise to love and obey in sickness and in health blah blah blah. Give the ring back you money grubbing *****.

I know they are on reality tv, but come on!! Everything that goes on with them, goes on all over the world. We just aren't always able to witness it. I say Indian Giver all the time and at no point while saying it did I think about Native Americans. We all have a little Indian in us. It is really silly. She is right. Nobody likes a Indian Giver!! Keep the ring honey!!!

Don't these dopes realize that "Indian Giver" isn't about 'Native Americans' giving, but AMERICANS giving to the NATIVE AMERICANS, and then TAKING IT BACK?

Many Native Americans consider the term offensive but the term is in common usage and it is safe to say most of us mean nothing by it. References show nothing racist is meant by the term, and as I see it it really is a term that respects native people and disses the white man, who promised uneven trade.

Can't believe the sensitivity of this country. If this remark riles the feathers of a American Indian, it is time to get a life!
