Kate Gosselin's Parenting Under Fire After Son Crawls Under Minivan

by Crystal Bell, posted Nov 7th 2011 12:25PM
kate gosselin parenting slammedAs anyone who's ever watched an episode of 'Kate Plus 8' knows, it's not easy to keep an eye on eight children. But Kate Gosselin's blind eye is getting the former reality star slammed by a child safety group.

It all happened last Thursday, when Gosselin picked up her kids after school. As she waited in the driver's seat of her minivan, her seven-year-old son Collin decided to climb under his mother's minivan, rather than climb inside. In a photo of the incident, he can be seen lying on his belly underneath the body of the car, with his head directly behind its front right wheel.

Take a look at the controversial photo after the jump.

While her son ran out from beneath the vehicle unharmed, Janette Fennell, president of KidsAndCars.org, has spoken out against Gosselin's negligent parenting. "She should have gotten out of the car to supervise them, especially when you have that many children," Fennell told RadarOnline.

Fennell then went on to say, "She is blessed she didn't run him over."

With her new job as a coupon blogger -- and without the extra help of a camera crew -- it looks like Gosselin is having some trouble wrangling in her eight.

Weigh in: Should Kate have gotten out of the car to supervise her children? Or do think this was just harmless fun?

You people who put Kate down are probably the same ones who are on welfare! At least she trys really hard to work & take care of her children. I have personally always admired Kate for being a clean, & very caring mother to her little children. How well could YOU handle 8 children and have them all to be perfect? Leave Kate alone people!!

Well - the brake lights on the rear of the minivan - by NOT being on - tell me that the minivan is clearly either in PARK or OFF. Is she perfect? No. Am I a fan? DEFINITELY NOT. But in this instance, she seems to really know her kids, and took safety measures (van either in park or off) to protect her little ones.

I do the same thing when dropping off a minivan full of kids. No moving until all are in and strapped, or out and standing on the sidewalk.

Getting OUT of the van could potentially be a danger because the kids INSIDE could move the gearshift (on some models) and make it roll. She actually has better control when doing a curbside pickup from school if she stays in the driver's seat.

She is DEFINITELY NOT the worst mother ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Prior to making such a ridiculous statement you should be required to observe in an emergency room of a major hospital and then you will see the worst mothers ever! Kids playing around and doing stupid stuff goes on every day everywhere. Especially boys. Should she have been more observant? Yes. May we follow you around and watch the things that your children do that you do not see? Will we observe yours doing stupid things? Yes! That is, if you have any. Lighten up.

Umm.... no. Become a foster parent... and meet the biological parents of the children you take in. THEN you might have some real perspective.

Those kids are whiny, homely brats! I dont get how any one can watch her or them. they are quite perhaps the worlds best birth control.

im shooked she didnt have her two oldest daughters playing parent like she does any other tme. and i agree she is no different then octomom other than she did take the pregnancy and birth and their lives all the way to the bank just like everyone that jumped on octomom. and yet kate was a nurse she new what the fertility pills would do she did it before but again she didnt get ridiculed. and yes we all have moments as being a parent i understand but when you have so many children you must get out that van and stop being lazy and make sure they are all safe and in the vehicle. this child obviously doesnt have rules becasue a by being a boy or not my children no never to play around vehicles theres a time and a place. and it obvious these kids were not taught were that time or place was because she is to busy passing them off or was to busy passing them off there whole childhood, couldnt imagine what would of happend if she hadnt had the help she did up until now. dont take fertility pills if you cant take the action to make sure that ALL the kids are safe and cared for ALL the same. its a shame and i feel bad for those kids. kate stop trying to find your next big thing and get over it, be a PARENT and protect your kids by teaching them right from wrong. i dont care if the van was off and in a drive way you must teach in the way that you never play around cars, not oh i count before leaving or it was harmless, or he's a boy doing boy things. you teach them to protect them cause there might be a time and a situation that could happen and it might not turn out as good as this one did by not running him over. next time you might not be so lucky... with that many kids you MUST pay attention at all times, stop being lazy, that laziness could cost one of your children thier lives.

I think any parent has an "off day" or moment. Because people like Kate are in the "lime light", their "off" days and moments are publicized and scrutinized. She doesn't need scrutiny - she needs help

"Take a look at the controversial photo after the jump."

Yes. Take a look. The only reason this photo is controversial is because it is of Kate +8. One, the doors are open. She is clearly not moving and is not about to move the van until the doors are closed. Two, the boy is just "being a boy" and is doing a stupid stunt a lot of boys have done in the past and will do in the future.

She has never raised the kids herself and doesn't know anything about raising kids or teaching them safety or manners. She has always depended on Jon or the crew or nannies to take care of the kids while she shopped, traveled, made appearances on shows, etc.... If you have kids you have to be there to take care of them. If something goes wrong, don't blame some one else, it's the mother's fault. She thinks all she has to do is sit in the car, too lazy to get out, and things will fall into place. Well, that doesn't happen. Kids should NEVER crawl under a car, I don't care what the reason would be, but NEVER. Teach them to get help if something is under the car. Is this the one that got kicked out of school? These kids are headed for trouble if something isn't done quickly.

You are a disgusting person for making such an horrific racist remark!! Her children are bi-racial and if you had an ounce of humanity you would never make such a hurtful remark regarding a child.
