Stephen Colbert Tells Seth Meyers He Wants to Host 'SNL' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 9th 2011 3:45AM
Seth Meyers, 'The Colbert Report'When Seth Meyers took time out from a busy week of preparations for a new 'Saturday Night Live' to appear on 'The Colbert Report' (Weeknights, 11:30PM ET on Comedy Central), an interesting question was raised.

It was when Stephen Colbert professed his interest in being an 'SNL' host that things got interesting. Meyers asked if he could do any characters -- itself a funny question considering that Colbert is essentially a character -- and he did a relatively awful Robert De Niro impression. But how would Colbert host? Would he be 'Colbert Report' Stephen or would he be himself?

Do you think it could work for him to be the blowhard pundit and host 'SNL'? Somehow, we think he'd be up for the challenge, and we'd love to see how he'd pull it off.

Of course Seth knows Colbert plays a character. Seth was being ironic and pretending that Colbert really is a right-wing news host. In the same vein, Seth referred to Colbert as being part of the real media, ie not comedy. What I'm curious about is if Seth and Colbert really did have that misunderstanding about how Seth got set up as a guest on the Report. :) Was it real surprise or just acting?
