TLC Announces Southwest Airline Show & 'Extreme Couponing All-Stars'

by Chris Harnick, posted Nov 16th 2011 4:15PM
Southwest TLC ShowWhile 'Pan Am' is giving audiences a dramatization of life at a prominent airline of the past, TLC is about to tackle the present with a reality series about Southwest Airlines.

In the new series, which doesn't have a premiere date or title, viewers will get a behind the scenes look at one of the biggest airlines in America. The show will also feature personal customer stories.

"Air travel has become incredibly accessible, and as a result, millions of travelers navigate the challenges of the airport, especially during the upcoming holiday season," Amy Winter, GM of TLC. "Southwest is a beloved brand, and their customers and employees will reveal the passion, commitment, and fantastic payoff of 'getting there' that helps keep us all flying."

Production begins on the 13-episode season in Baltimore/Washington International Airport and Denver International Airport with more venues to be named.

In another new series, the network is pitting its 'Extreme Couponing' subjects against one another. 'Extreme Couponing All-Stars' will pit 12 'Extreme Couponing' veterans head-to-head in a 7-part series. The test: they must buy $500 worth of items in 30 minutes, but nothing can be full price. Additionally, the entire haul must be donated. Each episode will feature two couponers going against each other. The winner will be determined by whoever has the highest percentage of savings. The overall series winner will have the three best shoppers battling in one store.

"Saving money can be like a sport these days – taking careful planning and unwavering commitment. The cast of 'Extreme Couponing' are very serious about being the best shoppers, and this will be a fun way to see who has what it takes to save the most," Winter said in a statement.

'Extreme Couponing All-Stars' premieres Tues., Dec. 27, 10PM ET on TLC.

Maybe I’m having a really bad case of déjà vu but I’m pretty sure I’ve already seen a reality TV show about Southwest Airlines. Yes? It was very entertaining or at least it was in the alternate universe I must have been in.

I was going to say, I know I've seen the SW airlines show before. It was one of my favorite shows. I wouldn't go so far and say it's a new show that TLC is doing. They should really say they are bringing it back, on a different channel.
