While there's yet to be any decision made on a permanent replacement for Regis Philbin after his retirement, Jerry Seinfield was chosen as the first fill-in co-host with Kelly Ripa. On 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS), he dubbed it 'Operation: Smooth Transition.'That said, though, Seinfeld isn't completely confident that he can fill the role. First of all, both he and Letterman acknowledge that Philbin is an institution, but there's something more specific that both Philbin does that Seinfeld says he can't.
"He sits there and ... he just kind of takes up people's time," he explained. "But you do it in a way that people say, 'I could take more of this.'"
Jerry Seinfield's co-hosting stint on 'Live! with Kelly' kicks off Monday, November 21.
