Kelly Clarkson's 'Unplugged': What You Won't See on Television

by AOL Music Staff, posted Nov 17th 2011 2:00PM
Kelly Clarkson UnpluggedWhen VH1 invited AOL Music to the taping of Kelly Clarkson's 'Unplugged,' of course they jumped at the chance to attend. So on a cold and rainy autumn afternoon, AOL Music trekked across lower Manhattan to join a very excited audience made up primarily of the 'Mr. Know It All,' singer's biggest fans. The energy in the crowd was frenetic to say the least, and when Kel finally took the tiny stage, she almost got a standing ovation before singing even one note. But sing she did, treating the audience to a sampling from her current hit CD, 'Stronger,' as well as a few gems from the past.

Before the very special episode airs tonight, Thursday, Nov. 17 at 8PM EST, AOL Music is giving you a taste of what to expect from KC's triumphant return to the small screen, and a few awesome off-camera moments the channel likely won't be airing.

- Despite her admittedly smaller chest, Kelly's figure-hugging red dress couldn't contain the singer's cleavage. On more than one occasion Kel compared her busty look to "Erin Brockovich," adding: "It's so funny, because I have no boobs, but they really want to come out and play [today]!"

- Upon taking the stage, Kelly immediately had trouble with her high heels. Later in the show Kel laughed to the audience: "This is my diva outfit. You'll never see me dressed like this on tour. I like being barefoot most times."

- Speaking of that "diva outfit," Kelly told the audience she was rocking some heavy-duty underwear beneath the bandage-style dress. "Spanx suck you in ... not that I'm wearing any ... OK, I'm wearing TWO!" laughed Kel. "You feel like a packed sausage in them."

- Between takes, Kel fretted with the audience about co-hosting the fourth hour of the Today Show the following morning. "It's going to be bad," said the singer. "Tune in -- I heard you can drink!"

- There was no alcohol on the set of 'Unplugged' that day, but Kelly did sip on a old fashioned Coco-Cola during takes to aide her dry throat under the hot studio lights.

- Kel shouted-out one of her favorite artists (and former opening act), Eric Hutchinson, who happened to be in the 'Unplugged' audience. Eric also wrote the track 'Why Don't You Try' on KC's new CD, 'Stronger.'

- After messing up the lyrics to a song, Kel joked with the crowd: "I should have stopped. Why didn't I stop? It's like my relationships!"

- Although she didn't sing it in the special, when an audience member asked Kelly what her favorite song on the new album was, she thought for a moment and replied, "'You Love Me.'"

Now that you know all the secrets behind Kelly's upcoming 'Unplugged,' all there's left to do is watch the show tonight! In the meantime, here's a preview of the Kel's cover of Carrie Underwood's 'I Know You Won't.' Enjoy!
