The Duggar Kids Discover the Bidet in England on '19 Kids and Counting' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 21st 2011 4:30AM
'19 Kids and Counting'Traveling to a new country can lead to all different kinds of culture shock. One of the things that the littlest kids noticed right away when the Duggars traveled to England on '19 Kids and Counting' (Sun., 8PM ET on TLC) was the bidet.

They, of course, didn't know what it is or what it was for. One of the children came closest when she proudly declared that it was a sink.

The older members of the family weren't quite sure what to do as they certainly didn't want the kids playing in this new "sink," nor did they seem keen to explain to them exactly what a bidet is and what it's used for.

It would be better to just explain it to the little ones and be done with it.

It does remind me of when I was about 17 and staying in a dorm for a college summer program with my best friend who happened to be totally blind. The hall we stayed was sometimes for men and sometimes for women, so the bathroom was equipped for both. I was in a stall and heard my friend ask quite loudly, "What the heck kinda sink is THIS?" I got out of the stall to see my friend and couldn't contain the hysterical laughter. "Dude..." I said between cackles, "Why do you have your hands in a urinal?" "EEEEEEEK!" she screamed and ran from it as fast as she could. I was almost on the floor by then. Much to my amusement, she never knew exactly what a urinal was.
