'Up All Night' Stays Up Longer With 2 Additional Episodes

Up All NightIt looks like NBC is far more enthusiastic about 'Up All Night' than viewers are. The Peacock network has ordered two more episodes of the freshman comedy, bringing its total number up to 24 for the season, Deadline reports.

The Will Arnett/Christina Applegate comedy has been a modest performer for NBC (a recent episode scored 4.8 million viewers and a 1.9 in the adults 18-49 demo) but compared to the rest of NBC's floundering schedule, consistency in the ratings is probably an attractive prospect right now.

The move is the latest vote of confidence for the show, which is being moved from Wednesdays at 8.30PM ET -- where it currently goes up against 'X Factor,' 'Survivor' and 'Suburgatory' -- to 9.30PM on Thursdays, where it will have 'The Office' as a lead-in, starting Jan. 12.

It remains to be seen whether 'Up All Night' can retain the million or-so viewers that currently separate it from 'The Office,' and (less likely) improve its demo to match the long-running comedy's 2.9 share.

Along with 'Whitney,' 'Up' got an early full-season pick-up from the network, so there's obviously someone at NBC who is rooting for the show to succeed. The move will likely rub some 'Community' fans the wrong way, however, since NBC's cult comedy is still missing from the midseason schedule and is obviously not destined to take over that post-'Office' slot any time soon.

What!? Bench Community and give a barely mediocre comedy 2 more episodes. Fantastic. Keep up the crappy work NBC.
