Will Maksim Chmerkovskiy Perform on the 'Dancing With the Stars' Finale?

by Catherine Lawson, posted Nov 21st 2011 7:20AM
This season of 'Dancing With the Stars' has had more than the usual amount of controversy, and a lot of it has come courtesy of clearly exasperated pro dancer -- and resident bad boy -- Maksim Chmerkovskiy. He's seemed dangerously close to boiling point all season and last week capped off an on-air altercation with judge Carrie Ann Inaba by dropping the f-bomb when talking about her to reporters.

Although Maks and partner Hope Solo's bad-tempered and uneven run on the show has come to an end, they're still due to perform on Tuesday night's live finale when each of this season's 12 couples returns to the dance floor for a special performance. But will they show up? After their elimination Maks and Hope were conspicuously absent from the post-show press lineup, and he rattled fans by writing in his blog: "What's next for me? I have no immediate plans at the moment. I'm not even sure if we're going to be at the finale!"

Addressing rumors that he won't be back next season, Maks -- who is under contract with the show until 2014, much to his obvious chagrin -- wrote: "I'll try to do what's right for my personal future. I'm sorry if that sounds selfish. But I will absolutely take into consideration my fans and what they want. I can say that at this point, I don't plan on taking any seasons off. If I'm not back next season, it wasn't up to me. And if I do change my mind and want to take a break, I'll announce it."

In an interview with 'The New York Post,' Maks didn't confirm whether he'll perform at the finale, but did say he wants to make his parents proud. He also said that while he regrets his argument with Len Goodman -- during which he told the veteran head judge, "maybe it's time to go" -- he doesn't regret standing up for himself. "I don't want to just stand back and accept punches. That is not what we are supposed to be doing."

Maks' bad temper has reportedly led to feuds between him and some of the other pro dancers. After the Ukrainian's bust up with Goodman, Derek Hough told reporters "You know, we're seasoned professionals. We've been on the show a long time and we know kind of know what to expect. We know the ins and outs. I think that to disrespect them, I think, is a little crossing the line."

Now 'Us Weekly' has reported that Maks' behavior has also created problems with the 'DWTS' crew, who are said to be "livid" about his antics, which they think "reflect poorly on the show." The magazine quotes an insider on the show as saying "He's a poor sport. People are suggesting he get anger management!"

So, given that Maks feels that "this is my show," who does he think will win? Although he said on his blog that he's "kind of torn" about who to root for, he told the 'Post' that J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff should take home the Mirror Ball trophy tomorrow night. (Though he still vows to never speak to his ex-fiancée Smirnoff again.) "If J.R. doesn't win, there is something fundamentally wrong with America."

He went on, "I think J.R. deserves it. It is his right to walk into 'Dancing With The Stars' and walk away with the trophy. But on top of all of that, he is a great dancer." Hinting at accusations that 'DWTS' has become a popularity contest, Maks added "You have to embrace the fact that after 13 seasons, it hasn't always been a dance competition. Therefore, J.R. needs to win this thing."

The 'DWTS' Season 13 finale kicks off tonight (Monday) with the three finalists -- Martinez, Ricki Lake and Rob Kardashian -- each performing two dances. The finale continues Tuesday night when after tallying the fan votes and judges' scores the lowest-scoring couple will be eliminated (the agony!).

The remaining two couples will then perform the Instant Samba to determine who'll take home the title and trophy.

The 'Dancing with the Stars' live two-night Season 13 finale airs Monday at 8PM ET and Tueday at 9PM ET on ABC.

You betcha Maks has fans. Just try to let Maks go, Dancing with The Stars, and you will be acutely aware of how many fans Maks has. He did have anger problems this year. Hope Solo was more that alitte tough to teach for many weeks, which was clearly exasperating for Maks. Plus, the judges were beyond rude week upon week, which made it even more exasperating for him (and Lacey, too). It is difficult enough to have to "fight" the attitude of the "Star" while trying to teach the dances; then, to have to endure weekly rudeness from the judges, coupled with unfair scoring.... is it any wonder it becomes too much for a perfectionist pro. Maks apparently, and understandably, could stand it no more....the pressure cooker exploded. It wasn't pretty, wasn't entertaining and wasn't enjoyable...but, it was understandable. Fans can forgive and forget; we have forgiven Maks for his remark to Len...the rest of his remarks did not need forgiveness...all is forgotten.....except the judges part in all of this !!! The judges have needed a major attitude adjustment for quite awhile....remember Michael Bolton ?? And, it has just gotten worse since then!!! Judges, either shape up or ship out....we do not watch for your comments..sorry to burst your bubble, Bruno. BYW, why was Maks picked on by Len seasons ago for leaving his shirt unbuttoned or for taking it off, yet Len said not a word to Derek for the same thing ? Did Derek wear a shirt at all this Season ???? Not that I am complaining about the view, mind you, but the one sided criticism is glaring. Give Maks a clean slate, give the Judges a stiff talking to, and move on to Season 14 !!!!!

I watch the show because Maks is HOT!!!!!!!! It''s about time some one gives back to the judges some of their own medicine. The judges should be giving CONSTRUCTIVE criticism....not put downs. The show as turned into a popularity contest....not a dance contest. The dancers should be judged on improvements they hav exhibited as the weeks go by.

David 3825, I completely agree with what you said. Make your criticism valid & constructive, and treat both the celebs & the pos with respect & you will get respect back. In what world does Carrie Ann have the knowledge to critique any of them? We need new judges & to revamp the format, but Maks needs to stay. Many people watch the show just to see him!

I think DWTS judges are the worst of any reality show. Len is a judge on the British version of DWTS and got into an argument with a dancer there. Carrie Ann has no ballroom dance experience yet gets to judge ballroom dancing. Bruno constantly berates people, calling Chaz animal names and constantly talks about Rob Kardashian's big butt. The judges want respect but show none.

Hello dgstar2!

Actually, Maks has millions of fans. He's the Pro with most followers on twitter. He's the one that year after year, keeps ratings up for the show. Don't believe me, you will see ratings drop on Monday.
