'Bachelorette' Ali Fedotowsky Splits from Fiance

by Catherine Lawson, posted Nov 22nd 2011 8:56AM
Brace yourselves, 'Bachelorette' fans. Yet another 'Bachelor(ette)' romance has bitten the dust: Ali Fedotowsky and fiancé Roberto Martinez are not getting married after all. We know, it's a shock. There we were, thinking that the wedding had merely been put on hold several times because of inconvenient knee surgery, pre-nup dieting, the fact that they barely knew each other ...

The couple's rep confirmed the split, telling 'Life & Style' magazine, "Ali Fedotowsky and Roberto Martinez have ended their relationship. As they go through this difficult time, we ask that you respect the couple's privacy."

Only last month -- after the wedding was delayed (again) -- Ali denied the relationship was over, telling 'People,' "We're still engaged, we're still living together. We just don't feel the need to walk down the aisle right now."

The couple met last year on Season 6 of 'The Bachelorette,' when Ali -- who'd previously vied for Jake Pavelka's hand on 'The Bachelor' -- chose Roberto at the final rose ceremony. This, despite many viewers (including AOL TV) being pretty convinced that he was all wrong for her.

There wasn't a dry eye on the beach in Tahiti when she said "I am in love with Roberto. The love I have for him is so strong, I couldn't possibly be wrong. I don't know what I did in this life to deserve his love." Shen then accepted his pretty instantaneous proposal and back in the US they became regulars on the red carpet. However, their last public appearance together was way back in July (an eternity in reality TV terms).

Despite the naysayers, the couple's relationship did last way longer than any of us expected, and certainly longer than most of the other pairings from the twin ABC dating shows so far. So why the split now? 'Life & Style' quotes a source close to the couple as saying that "the couple has been engaged in a rocky relationship in the past couple of months and could not make it work."

Last month in an interview with 'People,' Ali hinted that their relationship problems stemmed from the way in which they met. "We had a very short courtship and we only knew each other nine weeks before we got engaged. We are still figuring out our lives as individuals."
