Regis Philbin Looks Back on His 'Who Wants To Be a Millionaire' Days (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Nov 23rd 2011 3:00PM
Regis Philbin may be retired from 'Live!,' but he's hitting the talk show circuit to talk about his new memoir 'How I Got This Way.' On Wednesday, he stopped by 'Good Day NY' (weekdays, 9AM ET on Fox) where he reminisced about his days hosting the wildly popular 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire' and joked that the show had saved ABC.

Regis recalled his personal crusade to get the British-born game-show on the air in the America. "When I saw that show ... I said this is dynamite, this is great, people walking in from the street and walking out millionaires, if they can only answer 15 questions. It wasn't even on the ABC short-list, they were calling everyone else in town. But I kept pursuing it, pursuing it, and then finally it came my way ... and then it caught on, bigger than I thought it was gonna be."

When Rosana Scotto remembered how Regis used to brag about saving the network, he hopped forward in his chair, suddenly excited. "Well it was on four nights a week, does that tell you something?!" he yelled. Yup, Regis has still got it.

Enough of this attention *****. Again: He was not dismissed from his syndicated show. He was asked to re-up with no raise, so he fired his lifetime agent. Not classy. His demographics are all (obviously) old. He is simply the male Betty White with no talent. Just been around long enough to wear us out.
