Regis Philbin's Next Project: A Family Talent Show?

by Chris Harnick, posted Nov 28th 2011 10:25AM
Regis Philbin's Next ProjectRegis Philbin has been gone from 'Live!' for less than a month and he's already plotting his return to TV.

According to the New York Post's Page Six, Philbin's next TV project could be a family talent show. The 80-year-old TV mainstay has formed RAF Productions with former 'Live! With Regis and Kathie Lee' director Barry Glazer, Edward Walson and Cort Cassidy.

"We're contemplating a show that is sort of a talent show, but it involves the whole family," Philbin told Page Six. Philbin said the show will be on primetime once it comes to fruition.

Another possibility is a variety-esque show.

"In our business you don't want to say variety because it's frowned upon now, but something with people who are performing," he said.

After weeks of insisting he's not retiring -- just moving on --Philbin confirmed to Page Six that his departure from 'Live!' all came down to business. "It wasn't that ABC didn't try to negotiate with me," he said. "As it happens in this business, sometimes you don't really like the terms so you just walk away with that in mind."

Philbin first hinted at contract disputes in a radio interview. "The contractual issue just never worked out," he said, "but I was going to leave before that anyway."

Following his announcement that he was 'Live!' after 28 years, rumors swirled that Philbin would star in his own reality show. He filmed a pilot, but the project isn't going forward.

While his next projects continue to be in early planning stages, Philbin has ruled one potential gig out: Being a contestant on ABC's 'Dancing With the Stars.'

"Oh, no, no. That's too much for me! I thought about that, though, back when I was kidding myself," he told AOL TV. "It's a good show, but it's not for Regis."

Dear Regis I am not a commentary person, however I see how many people miss you on the live show, sometimes we have no choice when we decide to call it quits either because other people make difficult for us to continue what we do best by given on alternative or what ever are the reasons. Sometimes we make a decision to quit just because we try not to make any waves and we want to depart with a smile. So at this point I'll say to you and Joy you have worked long and hard for many years to make your dream come true. Now it's the time to enjoy some sun shine in the sun shines land. if you want my opinion take a nice trip to Italy and make a pit stop to all the Region while you're on vacation in Italy tape everything you do come back home with your documentary and you have a very interesting show, better yet call me, and I'll be your interpreter I will bring you in the most interesting places in Italy vineyard country side resort islands where they cook everything home made the freshness of the cheese all kinds of food thinks that you never experience before, Rome the capital of the world Florence, Venice the Gondola, we will travel from south to Nord of Italy and I know first hand both side from country to cities I will also show you several spectacular island of Sardinia this is one vacation that you will never forget and you would have a lot to say for your new show come aboard Regis and Joy you will taste the best food in the world nothing like Italian food and I'll give you a hint I am one the best chef that you want to know I have cooked with several chef on TV I will mention few, Wolfgang Puck, Michael Izakaya, Michael Vetri, Fabian Vivian, Darryl Harmon, you don't have taken my words for it I have lots pictures cooking with chefs. I am telling everyone to show love to others respect caring because without love, respect, and care, we have nothing left except anger and madness. I have very little hope that this world would ever be the same ever again this is the worst that I ever seen during my life time the past world will never come back. I guess that I am the odd one, but I am so tired of Regis. I stopped watching years ago. He is so full of himself it's pathetic. How many face lifts and dye jobs has he had? He's 80 years old. We only know that because of the media. He still wants his audience to believe he's 45. Poor, poor man.

I don't miss Regis. He always stumbled over his words, couldn't get anything right. It definitely is time for him to retire. There are too many "talent" shows now.. we don't need another and especially hosted by Regis. I'm just not a fan of his at all.

Please do another daytime talk show--YOU'RE THE BEST !!! Plus it would show everyone at Disney/ABC as well as Gelman, what a big mistake they made. You know we'd all watch ya Reege. Maybe you and Rosie could do one together. I always loved you 2 together when she subbed for K Lee.

With the current garbage on TV, I would watch a real talent/variety show with anybody as host!

Regis your a nice guy, but really now. Hasn't good friend 'the trumpster' given you a guest spot out by the pool at Mar-A-Lago? What could be more fun than that?
