Earthquake Strikes During Clean-Up on 'Hoarders' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 29th 2011 2:30AM
'Hoarders' - 'Mike/Bonnie''Hoarders' (Mon., 9PM ET on A&E) wrapped its season with a very sobering reminder of how dangerous hoarding can be. Mike's house was in terrible shape, heaped with piles of used adult diapers, as well as deceased cats. But it was the structural integrity of the house Matt Paxton feared when the ground began to shake beneath their feet.

During filming, while they were inside the house, a 5.8 earthquake hit. Earthquakes are dangerous in clean houses, but in a house hoarded with filth and damaged from neglect it's an even more frightening situation.

Once they were clear of the mess, Paxton breathed a sigh of relief. "The last place I want to die is underneath all of your diapers going through the floor," he said to Mike.

This is a serious condition and should have been treated, accordingly. Making a show out of hoarding dirty diapers, is insensitive. They are elderly and ill. There are so many possible reasons, for this, only a doctor educated in these types of actions can say. Why oh, why are these things being exploited on TV and online? Isn't it sad enough, what goes on behind closed doors? I guess some have never heard of such but most have if they are the least bit educated in the mental illness of people, To laugh or be rude is tempting, fate. In less than a minute, many of us, could find ourselves in the same situation. If you want to do something, keep these people in your thoughts and prayers and be aware of what is going on in your own family and community. Perhaps, there is a way to help. And pray one day, they will take this type of stalking off the air, which is what it is...showing the sadness, people can't help is not entertainment. It is a form of voyeurism at it's sickest.

I think this show should be taken off the air. Most of the hoarders they have on the show are obviously mentally ill and are being taken advantage of.

A&E is a pathetic joke of a cable network. Faked, contrived, "reality" rubbish!

Hoarder?? HOARDER ?? Excuse me, this is NOT a hoarder. This is a psychotic and disgusting .
The crew should never have taken this assignment. Hoarding does NOT EQUAL EXCREMENT AND URINE.!
No, they should not have spoken to her at all. When they saw what the situation was, they should have
walked out and called the local Department of Health, My husband is 90 and he is fastidious. Old age
is not responsible. This behavior is mental at any age.

Yes donna I hate to break it to you but hoarding can include bags of feces, dead cats old adult diapers, Hoarding is hoarding whether you hoard old books or old diapers It is a mental disorder so there is no clear cut reasoning and one who has the problem shouldnt be deemed psychotic because you find their hoard disgusting. hoarding is an ILLNESS and there are reasons for it, Have some compassion

I usually do have compassion for people but this house should have been condemned and they should have been charged with animal cruelty. If this is an illness, then get help.

FEEL BAD FOR THE THE FAMILY. YES THEY ARE HOARDERS BUT THE LADY IS ELDERLY. GIVE HER SOME COURTESY OF HOW YOU ADDRESS HER. IT WAS DISRESPECTFUL. IF SOMEONE SPOKE TO MY MOTHER LIKE THAT I WOULD BE HIGHLY UPSET. THEIR JOB WAS TO INVESTIGATE THAT TYPE OF ATOMSPHERE. SO THERE WAS NO NEED TO KEEP ASKING WHY OF ANYTHING.
