'Law & Order: SVU' Star Christopher Meloni to Join 'True Blood'?

If you've been wanting to see more of Christopher Meloni on your television screens, congratulations: You could soon be seeing a lot more of him. According to TVLine, Meloni's eyeing a major role in the upcoming fifth season of HBO's 'True Blood.' How great is that?!

If Meloni does join 'True Blood' it would the first foray into television work for the 'Oz' veteran since he abruptly quit 'Law & Order: SVU' earlier this year. He's reportedly currently filming his role as Colonel Hardy in the Zack Snyder/Christopher Nolan 'Superman' movie reboot, 'Man of Steel.'

It's thought that Meloni is pondering a role as an "incredibly powerful vampire." But who? The 'True Blood' fan sites and Twitter have exploded with speculation, so check out some theories after the jump. But be warned, there may be SPOILERS ahead ...

Maybe the vampire thing is some misdirection. TVLine previously reported that 'True Blood' casting directors were looking for "a hard-bodied fiftysomething" to play a new alpha werewolf -- possibly Alcide's dad -- "who isn't likely to share a water bowl with the new pack leader anytime soon." Could that be the role that Meloni's looking at? He did turn 50 this year, and the famously buff actor is no stranger to getting naked on screen.

The casting call for the season-opener is looking for this: "J.D., 50s, a particularly large Marine-type werewolf, he refuses to bow down before the new pack leader..." Remind you of anyone?

Or how about this? TrueBlood.net has lined up Dieter Braun, a "mature and self-possessed" vampire who'll make his debut appearance in the second episode of Season 5, 'Authority Always Wins.' Described in the casting call as "a vampire of average build who is nevertheless extremely intimidating," Det. Eliot Stabler Dieter "uses innovative methods to torture a prisoner during an interrogation."

Neither Meloni nor HBO have commented yet on the reports linking him to Bon Temps, so stay tuned for updates.

GIVE STABLER WHAT HE WANTS, JUST GET HIM BACK WITH BENSON. ALL THE WOMAN MISS HIM AND BENSON DOESN T NEED ANOTHER WOMAN; . Meloni was one of the main reasons for watching SVU. I've never been interested in the vampire series. He will be missed and SVU will not be the same without him. Perhaps, like the Office, we will get used to a new partner on the show, but it is doubtful that the same chemistry can be repeated. Hopefully, the door will remain open and he could return in the future. Connie

I do too," Benson" will probably be the next to bail....the powers that be just don't learn who it is that is selling the show. Why not just pay the actors the raises they've earned?

Whoever let Meloni walk from Law and Order SVU needs their head examined. The show is not the same and
I have stopped watching it. His replacement is just OK, not great. The chemistry is gone.

He is HOT!!!!! He is by far one of the hottest older man ever. I have always been crazy about him and loved watching Law and Order for years just because of him and Mariza. They sure made a great team but ultimately I loved the show because of him. I'm not into vampire stuff but I'll watch it just to see him :)
