First Date Ends in Tears on Premiere of 'The Exes' (VIDEO)

'The Exes' - 'Pilot'TV Land has found a comfortable niche with their new line of sitcoms. Bring in familiar faces from sitcoms past and build shows around them that hearken back to those bygones days when the world was simpler, and so was television.

It's worked pretty well for them so far -- and they've smartly paired each of their new entries with established hit 'Hot in Cleveland' -- so they're at it again with 'The Exes' (Wed., 10:30PM ET on TV Land).

This one features Kristen Johnston as a divorce attorney who has filled the apartment across from her with three divorced men. The newest arrival moves in just in time for the premiere, and he proves to be the emotional tie that brings all these broken people together.

Before Stuart (David Alan Basche) moved in, existing roomies Phil (Donald Faison) and Haskell (Wayne Knight) were content to barely talk to one another. But Stuart's clingy neediness forced them to notice him.

It almost got him thrown out as well after he broke down crying on a date with a fellow divorcee -- don't worry, she broke down and cried too -- and decided to go and try to win his ex-wife back. Only she'd already moved on, which meant it was time for him to move on as well.

And that's all it took to set up the premise. Let the usual sitcom shenanigans begin with these mismatched roommates and the wacky neighbor across the hall.

In comparing it to shows like it, which includes the rest of TV Land's original series and maybe 'Melissa & Joey' and 'Last Man Standing,' 'The Exes' has the potential to bring the same kind of comfortable laughs, and maybe that's just what we need more of.

If you need more reason to tune in, try these given by the cast to AOL TV.
