'Game of Thrones' DVD and Blu-Ray Release Dates Announced

by Catherine Lawson, posted Dec 5th 2011 7:00AM
'Game of Thrones'Winter can't come fast enough for 'Game of Thrones' fans who are itching to see Season 2. While they wait in anticipation, they'll soon be able to re-watch Season 1 at their leisure. The DVD and Blu-ray versions -- complete with a host of goodies -- will be in stores March 6.

According to 'Entertainment Weekly,' the sets are really, really good: "HBO has pulled out all the stops. Based on the two disks I previewed, 'Thrones' was given a lavish presentation. The sophisticated menu navigation and behind-the-scenes extras that are on par with DVD sets from hit movies rather than what fans typically receive for TV shows."

After the jump watch a new sneak peek of Arya Stark's "rough and tumble" new look for Season 2 and check out the DVD/Blu-ray extras.

While the DVD and Blu-ray versions won't be out in time for the festive season, they will be out in time for 'Thrones' addicts to get their fix right before Season 2 launches. 'Game of Thrones' Season 1 will be in stores on March 6, 2012. The cost: $79.98 for BD and $59.99 for standard-def DVD.

Here's what you get with the DVD set: Complete guide to Westeros; the making of 'Game of Thrones' featurette; character profiles; the creation of the Emmy-winning opening title sequence; executive producers David Benioff & D.B. Weiss, and author George R.R. Martin talk about the challenges of bringing Martin's epic fantasy novel to life; an in-depth look at The Night's Watch; creating the Dothraki language.

The Blu-ray set has all of the above plus: Complete interactive guide to Westeros; in-episode guide; anatomy of an episode; find hidden dragon eggs feature, which uncovers extra never-before-seen content.

No interactive sex feature??? I thought that would have been a no brainer.
