Republicans Hate 'Jersey Shore,' Love 'The Bachelor'
Snooki's poof apparently doesn't work its magic on Republicans.A new study by Experian-Simmons found conservative-leaning viewers tend to favor reality programming like 'Dancing With the Stars,' 'The Bachelor,' 'The Biggest Loser,' 'MythBusters,' but one exception to that trend was 'Jersey Shore.' Also among GOP favorites is the History Channel's block of programming: 'Only in America with Larry the Cable Guy,' 'American Pickers,' and 'Swamp People.'
Two other popular liberal shows, 'Glee' and 'Modern Family,' topped the conservative list last year, but are no longer two of the favorite shows among Republican viewers, according to EW. They did, however, still rank high with those on the more liberal end of the political spectrum.
'30 Rock' and 'Parks and Recreation' also proved to be two favorite shows among Democrats in 2011. Liberals also love other cult-hit comedies like 'The Office,' Experian noted sarcastic humor does well with liberal audiences. Other favorites include some unsurprising choices: 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia,' 'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,' 'The Colbert Report,' 'Treme' and 'Cougar Town.'
In the late night category, 'The Late Show with David Letterman' and 'The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson' ranks high with liberals, while 'The Tonight Show With Jay Leno' is the favorite among conservatives.
Among hated shows, the new study found Republicans do not like 'Weeds' -- drug content and a female anti-hero made it the least favorite among those polled -- 'The Daily Show,' 'The Colbert Report,' 'The Walking Dead' and 'South Park.' The polled Democrats dislike History's reality shows including 'Only in America with Larry the Cable Guy,' 'CSI: Miami,' 'Kitchen Nightmares,' nature-centric shows including 'Swamp People,' 'River Monsters,' 'Billy the Exterminator' and 'Swamp Loggers.'
Despite its not-so-subtle pro-life message, 'The Secret Life of the American Teenager' proved to be unpopular amongst both Dems and stalwart Republicans.
Apparently, anti-heroes and quirky humor pull in liberals, while Republicans favor many of TV's most popular scripted and unscripted programs.
