Talking TV Podcast Riffs on 'Sons of Anarchy,' 'Homeland,' 'Revenge' and 'State of Play'
There's lots of TV to discuss before the cable and broadcast networks begin their holiday-season hibernation periods, and Ryan McGee and I tried to get to as much of it as we could in this week's Talking TV with Ryan and Ryan podcasts.First up, we devote more than 30 minutes to the 'Sons of Anarchy' Season 4 finale, which I also wrote about here. In the second podcast, we briefly discussed several projects debuting this week and then talked in more depth about 'Revenge' (expect more on that topic late Wednesday, which is when I'll publish an interview with creator Mike Kelley), 'State of Play' (a truly great 2003 British miniseries that BBC America is re-airing starting Wednesday; read more about it here), and 'Homeland,' a very good Showtime program that is heading into the home stretch of its first season.
Running times are below.
The 'SOA' podcast is all Charming, all the time.
The running times for the other podcast are as follows:
0:00 - 20:01: Brief mentions of the Syfy Saturday night movie 'Snowmaggedon,' 'Appropriate Adult,' a Sundance Channel movie starring Dominic West that also airs Saturday (I wrote about that and interviewed West here), and 'Luck,' the new Dustin Hoffman-David Milch show (HBO airs a sneak peak of the pilot for 'Luck' on Sunday). By the way, other December programs of note are mentioned in this list.
20:01 - 31:25: 'Revenge' (which airs its mid-season finale Wedneday; there are no spoilers in this discussion. But check back here later tonight for a post-mortem with executive producer Kelley, who'll give lots of hints on where things go next).
31:25 - 41:26: 'State of Play' (read Alan Sepinwall's recent rave about the miniseries here)
41:26 - end: 'Homeland' (we discuss developments up to and including the Dec. 4 episode, so you might want to jump out before this section if you haven't seen all of the episodes up to that point.)
The usual reminder: You can grab the podcasts from iTunes (where you can also subscribe) or you can get this week's discussions from the Talking TV home site; they're here and here.
