'NCIS' Contract Dispute Update: David McCallum's Signed

by Allison Waldman, posted May 1st 2010 2:30PM
david_mccallum_ncis_ducky_cbsReports of Ducky's departure have been premature. In an update on the 'NCIS' cast dispute that we reported the other day, David McCallum is signed for next season. That's right, his manager told TV Guide that the previous stories had incorrectly put him in the same boat with Michael Weatherly, Sean Murray and Pauley Perrette.

McCallum's manager explained, "I'm sure some of the others are negotiating, but he's not affected by it. He falls into the Mark Harmon/Rocky Carroll category. He's signed on for additional seasons. He's excited to be coming back to the show and can't wait to see everybody."

The 'NCIS' gang was finally back. As much as the reruns are enjoyable, there's really nothing like a fresh episode. This was a fun episode because FBI agent Fornell was back, which means getting on Gibbs' nerves and good banter between the two. And then there was the girl from Tim's past. It's not what you think, but if you want to know more, read on.

Holly Snow, the madame we met in a previous episode, was back for this episode when the corpse turned out to be a Navy journalist investigating call girls. Or the guys who use them. So we found Holly where Gibbs had left her; doing community service as penance for her criminal activity. She was the perfect source of expertise for Gibbs. More on Holly, Gibbs and Tony's new undies after the jump.

FOX News Removes LL Cool J Interview From Palin Special

by Bob Sassone, posted Mar 31st 2010 1:31PM
Fox News ChannelEarlier today Brad told you about the guests that Sarah Palin is going to have on her first special for FOX News, 'Real American Stories.' One of them was supposed to be LL Cool J, but now FOX has removed him from the special. Why? It's a little complicated.

It seems that this isn't a new interview with the actor/singer. It's an interview he did in 2008 with the FOX News web site Real American Stories and the network was just going to rerun that interview. Palin would have only introduced the interview. But when LL Cool J (real name: James Smith) found out that they were running the old interview, he tweeted his displeasure (as most people now do).

At this point in 'NCIS,' every episode has a certain amount of fun in it just because we like the characters so much. It's the team interaction and the nuggets of character development that are generally more interesting than the mystery, although there was a clever, treasure subplot in this one. And there was someone new in the mix. For more on the anti-Gibbs -- or maybe she was more of the alter-Gibbs -- follow me after the jump.

The most important aspect of this 'NCIS' episode was the mystery. No, not the one about the Marine who may or may not have been MIA in Afghanistan, but the one involving Dr. Mallard and the ties. The clues had been laid out throughout the season, and tonight we learned that everything with Ducky was not as plucky as he was leading his friends to believe. More on that, the rain in D.C., and a handsome devil named Mortimer after the jump.

When it was announced that Gena Rowlands would be on 'NCIS' as a guest, playing Jethro's former mother-in-law, you just suspected that this was going to be something special. Sometimes it's difficult to live up to the expectations, for the creators as well as the fans watching. Fortunately, this show did live up to the expectations, especially for those who have always wanted to know more about Gibbs and his tragic past.

CBS Locks Up CEO Les Moonves Through 2015 - UPDATE

by Allison Waldman, posted Feb 24th 2010 9:41PM
les_moonves_ceo_cbsIf Les Moonves were a playing craps at a Las Vegas casino, he'd be the guy with the dice on a hot streak. You would put your chips down to let it ride and that's exactly what the CBS Corporation did. CBS has given president and CEO Leslie Moonves a new contract through February 22, 2015. He's being asked to keep on doing just what he's been doing, that is keeping CBS as a powerhouse network. They want him to continue being the anti-Jeff Zucker. Moonves with the Midas Touch is how you might describe him because things are just good and getting better at the Tiffany network.

Executive Chairman Sumner Redstone had nothing but good things to say about Moonves in the Wall Street Journal story about the new contract. He said, "This agreement not only secures the future of the company for many years to come, it also further aligns and strengthens the interests of the chief executive with those of our shareholders."

More on Gena Rowlands' 'NCIS' Episode

by Allison Waldman, posted Feb 12th 2010 11:00AM
days_of_our_lives_leann_hunleyThere's more details coming out about Gena Rowlands' upcoming guest turn on 'NCIS,' thanks to a report from TV Guide soap expert Michael Logan. When Rowlands appears on 'NCIS' March 2 as Gibbs' former mother-in-law, Joann, the show will flashback to a time when Joann and Jethro were much younger.

The younger Gibbs will be played by Sean Harmon, Mark's own son, and the younger version of Joann will be portrayed by 'Days of Our Lives'' Emmy-winner Leann Hunley.

Hunley (pictured), who plays Anna DiMera on 'Days of Our Lives,' told Logan that she was thrilled to play Joann in flashback, especially because of her admiration for Rowlands. "When I first saw her back in the '70s in 'A Woman Under the Influence,' I thought, 'That woman looks like me! She has my eyes!'" Hunley told Logan.

Interesting episode of 'NCIS,' one that was somewhat fun, somewhat lighthearted, and even a little playful. Of course, there was still a dead body, and a chance for Gibbs to interact with an old adversary. We're a few weeks out from the Paris trip, but Tony and Ziva remain as cagey as ever about what happened... if anything happened at all in that hotel room. More on that and the 1971 Plymouth Barricuda hemi after the jump.

As the title suggests, what we witnessed going on for much of this episode was not reality, but a 'Masquerade.' If you pay attention to titles, you can have an edge figuring out what's what. Meanwhile, beyond the action, there was more character interaction as 'NCIS' continues to weave a few mystery threads, including M. Allison Hart's fascination with Mr. Gibbs.

Review: NCIS - Jet Lag

ziva_tony_NCIS_jet_lag(S07E13) So there they were in Paris -- Tony and Ziva. The situation was ripe for romance, right? Was NCIS finally going to "go there" and let fans have a Moonlighting moment for their favorite characters?

Not so fast. Before you could say Champs Elysees, the two were boarding a jet at Charles de Gaulle airport to complete an assignment that turned into murder in the air. Fortunately, the mystery on the airliner trumped the one on the ground and made for a good episode.

NCIS casts Gena Rowlands for integral guest role

by Allison Waldman, posted Jan 16th 2010 4:06PM
gena_rowlands_portraitWhat do Ralph Waite, Robert Wagner and Michael Nouri have in common? They've all turned up on NCIS for guest roles. And not just a quick pop in scene or two. No, they've been integrated into the show and two of them have already recurred. (I'm counting on Robert Wagner to recur in the future, as well).

So, the news today that Gena Rowlands will be on NCIS in March has me feeling very enthusiastic. And it's a multi-episode role.

Michael Ausiello reports in Entertainment Weekly that Gena has been cast as Jethro's former mother-in-law, Joann, an elegant, upscale type. NCIS executive producer Shane Brennan said that her showing up in Jethro's life again will bring with it lots of turmoil and emotional "heartache, anger and blame in the process."
