Comic-Con Q&A: 'Spartacus: Vengeance' Cast On Fan Support & Season 2 Drama (VIDEO)

by Maureen Ryan, posted Jul 23rd 2011 11:00AM
Lucy LawlessIt was the usual mayhem at the 'Spartacus' panel at Comic-Con. Fans saw the first footage of Liam McIntyre in the title role, and they certainly seemed to like it.

In one of the few serious moments, McIntyre said he'd spoken to previous star Andy Whitfield, who had to leave the project due to health reasons, and that having Whitfield's blessing "meant a lot to him." (Executive producer Steven DeKnight said Whitfield is doing "very well" with his treatment.)

Otherwise Lucy Lawless talked about the almost-unhinged Lucretia we will see in Season 2 and about Lucretia's very twisted relationship with Ilythia (Viva Bianca). Then Lawless demonstrated her almost unrivaled ability to make almost anything she says sound a little bit naughty. (A fan asked about "filling the void" now that John Hannah's character, Batiatus, is gone. You can imagine where that line of questioning went.)

The only time the cast was tongue-tied was when a fan asked if they were used to seeing each other naked. There was lots of embarrassed giggling, but I gathered that yes, they were used to it.

Comic-Con Q&A: The 'Big Bang Theory' Cast Teases Season 5 Love Triangles (VIDEO)

by Laura Prudom, posted Jul 23rd 2011 10:40AM
Jim Parsons, 'The Big Bang Theory'The cast of CBS' hit comedy 'The Big Bang Theory' sure knows how to make an entrance at Comic-Con. The men and women behind TV's number one sitcom were greeted like rockstars in a filled-to-capacity Ballroom 20, and AOL TV caught up with them right after for all the scoop on Season 5 (premieres Thurs., Sept. 22, 8PM ET on CBS).

Okay, technically they haven't started shooting yet, so the spoilers were sparse, but we did unearth some hints about the ongoing Priya/Leonard/Penny love triangle from Johnny Galecki, and asked the stars to weigh in on how Penny and Raj's hook-up might affect the dynamic of the group.

Simon Helberg also shared his predictions for Howard and Bernadette's future following their engagement, while Jim Parsons gave us a very Sheldon-esque opinion on whose side his character might take once Leonard finds out about Raj's betrayal. Dun, dun, dun!

'The Secret Circle' Cast Talks 'Vampire Diaries' Adoration, Witchcraft & Love (VIDEO)

by Jean Bentley, posted Jul 23rd 2011 10:00AM
Everybody on 'The Secret Circle' totally loves their boss, Kevin Williamson. The supernatural show's witchy trio of Jessica Parker Kennedy, Shelley Hennig and Phoebe Tonkin couldn't sing the man's praises enough at The CW's Upfronts red carpet in May. The same goes for stars Britt Robertson and Thomas Dekker.

The Secret Circle

In fact, Robertson said she didn't even read the script before wanting to do the series. " Kevin -- ugh, he's amazing," she told AOL TV. "Before even reading the script I was like 'I want to do this project' because he's such a talented human being and has such a vision and is a really exciting presence to work with."

'TSC' has plenty in common with The CW's other Williamson show, 'The Vampire Diaries' -- namely love triangles, attractive leads, supernatural occurrences and insane cliffhangers. Oh, the cliffhangers. "What's a show without cliffhangers?" asked Kennedy.

Comic-Con 2011: Highlights from HBO's 'True Blood' Panel

by Laura Prudom, posted Jul 22nd 2011 11:00PM
Ballroom 20 was alive with the sound of squealing Friday night, as the unnaturally attractive 'True Blood' cast hit the stage at Comic-Con.

Alexander Skarsgård, Ryan Kwanten, Stephen Moyer, Nelsan Ellis, Kevin Alejandro, Kristin Bauer van Straten, Rutina Wesley, Deborah Ann Woll, Anna Paquin and Alan Ball (phew!) held court before a packed house, showing off some steamy scenes still to come this season in a searing sizzle reel (watch it and get more on that here), before tantalizing the audience with a few juicy spoilers in the hour-long panel.

Sam Trammell (whose wife is about to have twins) and Joe Manganiello (who is filming a movie in Atlanta) were sorely missed, but we'd still say that the hotness quotient of the panel was far above normal human levels.

Check out a few of the highlights from the panel after the jump.

'The Vampire Diaries' Season 3 Comic-Con Preview (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Jul 22nd 2011 9:40PM
The Vampire DiariesHey 'Vampire Diaries' fans -- did you think we'd forgotten about you? Think again.

The CW has just released the new Season 3 trailer (premieres Thurs., Sept. 15, 8PM ET) they'll be premiering at Comic-Con tomorrow, but we've got it for you right now.

None of this is new, mind you, but Katherine looks as evil as ever and Damon and Elena look a little too close for Stefan's comfort ... except for the fact that Klaus has turned Stefan back on to his old bloodthirsty ways and that's kind of all he cares about.

Check back tomorrow afternoon for more 'TVD' Comic-Con goodness, and some actual new news, including our video interviews with the show's sexy cast.

Got a burning question for them after watching this video? Tweet it to @LauinLA or leave it in the comments here, and we'll try to get you answers.

Check Out the New 'True Blood' Preview, Straight From Comic-Con

by Maggie Furlong, posted Jul 22nd 2011 9:10PM
True BloodAccording to Sookie Stackhouse, there's no such thing as "normal" or "forever," but this just-released teaser of the rest of Season 4 looks so abnormally action-packed, we might just declare our love for the show again. Forever.

With a ton of fangs (like, really, everyone's got their fangs out), plenty of witchcraft, some more shirtless Eric, a little sexy Sookie in slo-mo and Tara the Vampire Slayer, this preview says so much without ever saying a thing.

Does Sookie get better at harnessing her fairy powers? Looks like it. But can that keep her safe? You obviously haven't seen the show if you think so.

Take a peek at what the Comic-Con crowd freaked out over and tell us what you think -- is 'True Blood' back on top this season?

Megan Mullally Joins 'Happy Endings,' Talks Nick Offerman's Emmy Snub

by Chris Harnick, posted Jul 22nd 2011 5:50PM
Nick Offerman, Megan MullallyMegan Mullally is going from one critically-acclaimed comedy to another, taking a leave as Tammy on 'Parks and Recreation' to go play on ABC's 'Happy Endings' this season.

The 'Will & Grace' veteran spilled the beans to Zap2It at Comic-Con.

"I'm going to do a little arc," Mullally told them. She admitted she hasn't signed any contracts yet, but that she'll be playing a mom to one of the show's funny leading ladies. "... Rumor has it I'm going to be playing Casey [Wilson's] mother. I love her."

Mullally, perhaps best known for her years as Karen Walker on 'Will & Grace,' last popped up on 'Parks and Recreation' opposite her real-life husband Nick Offerman in the Season 3 finale.

Comic-Con 2011: Highlights from the 'Locke & Key' Panel & Screening

by Maureen Ryan, posted Jul 22nd 2011 5:07PM
One of the most intriguing TV projects of the last year or so has been Fox's 'Locke and Key,' an adaptation of a comic book by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez.

The good news is that the pilot, which was screened at Comic-Con Friday morning, is excellent. It certainly would have made the list of my Top 10 Promising Pilots for the new season, had it been picked up.

But it was not picked up; that's obviously the bad news. And at a panel after the screening, the show's producers made it clear that they weren't there to get fans to drum up interest from another network.

"We didn't come here to do a Hail Mary and to pull a fast one," producer Robert Orci said.

Hill, Rodriguez, Orci, the pilot's writer, Josh Friedman, director Mark Romanek and two actors (the guys who played Tyler and Sam) were at Comic-Con to show the pilot to fans and to share their pride in the project. It's a drag to report that, as a TV endeavor, it certainly looks like 'Locke and Key' is dead, which is a shame.

I'll divide this post on the pilot and panel into two parts. The first part is safe to read if you hope to read the comic some day and you'd rather not see major plot points from the comic, which has supernatural and horror elements and concerns a family that moves into an old house full of interesting keys. The paragraphs at the end are for those who've read 'Locke and Key' and they contain information about the pilot and the comics.

Comic-Con 2011: Extensive Highlights of the 'Game of Thrones' Panel

by Maureen Ryan, posted Jul 22nd 2011 2:00AM
Snagging a seat at 'Game of Thrones' first panel at Comic-Con. Is there anything that could make a nerd's heart gladder? Not really.

A few extremely random impressions from the packed 'Game of Thrones' panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday: 'GoT' fans love Kit Harington, Jason Momoa and Peter Dinklage; George R. R. Martin, who wrote the books on which the HBO series is based, did a brisk job of keeping things moving (I'm thinking he'll be asked back next year); and there's no word yet on when the show's season 1 DVDs will come out.

One tasty set of extras that will be on that DVD set: The actors' audition videos. The "haka" war dance that Jason Momoa did to win the role of Khal Drogo is something to see, executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss told the crowd of 4,200 'GoT' fans.

What follows is a summary of the hourlong panel, which kicked off with a clip reel of the main events of the show's first season. [Be aware that what follows contains plot information about season 1. It does not contain spoilers for season 2.]

Comic-Con Q&A: 'Burn Notice' Star & Creator Talk Season 5, Guest Stars & More (VIDEO)

by Maureen Ryan, posted Jul 21st 2011 11:35PM
Bruce Campbell, 'Burn Notice'At Thursday's 'Burn Notice' panel at Comic-Con, fans got exactly what they wanted: Vintage Bruce Campbell.

The dynamic is simple, but it works -- Campbell goofs on his fans and they love it. 'Burn Notice' creator Matt Nix shared the stage with Campbell, and their good-natured sarcasm was enjoyable to witness ("Actors are like puppets," Nix observed. Campbell: "I'm right here." Nix: "I made him say that").

Of course, they talked about the making of 'The Fall of Sam Axe' movie (which, as luck would have it, comes out on DVD this Tues., July 26), the making of the USA show (the fifth season of which is now underway) and even got serious about Sam (Nix said the beer-loving ex-Navy Seal wasn't far from who Campbell is as a person -- "kind of the best older brother that ever was").

One fan wanted a "scandalous" story from the set, and Campbell obliged her: "Jeffrey Donovan and I have spent a lot of time together in the Charger. One time it got a little out of hand."

Comic-Con Q&A: The Cast of 'Ringer' Talks About Their Surprising New Show (VIDEO)

by Maureen Ryan, posted Jul 21st 2011 11:00PM
Sarah Michelle Gellar at Comic-ConAt Thursday's 'Ringer' panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Sarah Michelle Gellar said the surprises in the show were what drew her back to TV.

"I realized it was the first time in a really long time that I had been surprised [by something I'd read]," Gellar said of the drama-thriller, in which she plays twin sisters with double the secrets.

We caught up with the cast -- including Gellar, Nestor Carbonell (who plays a cop), Ioan Gruffud (who plays the husband of one of the sisters) and Kristoffer Polaha (a man with a romantic interest in that same sister) -- before their panel to hear more about the show.

Check out our video interviews to hear more about their characters (including Carbonnel comparing his 'Ringer' character to 'Lost''s Richard Alpert), suspending disbelief, playing things two ways, and the possibilities and plausibility of 'Ringer.'

Comic-Con 2011: Highlights From The CW's 'Ringer' Panel

by Laura Prudom, posted Jul 21st 2011 7:45PM
'Ringer' was one of the most anticipated new show panels at this year's Comic-Con. I mean, hello, it's the return of Buffy herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar, to TV! And she's playing twins!

But the three leading men also got squeals from the crowd as the sizzle reel played before the panel started. Nestor Carbonell ('Lost' fans in the house!), Kris Polaha and Ioan Gruffud are not too shabby themselves.

Ringer

When the cast took the stage, along with Eric Carmello and Nicole Snyder, the show's executive producers who jumped from 'Supernatural,' and fellow EP Pam Veasay, it was Gellar -- looking gorgeous -- who the crowd went nuts for.

Before the series premieres this fall (Tues., Sept. 13, 9PM ET on the CW), check out a few teases, straight from their Comic-Con panel.

EXCLUSIVE: The 'Torchwood' Cast Will Be at Tonight's Comic-Con Screening

by Maureen Ryan, posted Jul 21st 2011 6:00PM
TorchwoodComic-Con is a magical place where famous people dress up in costume to walk the convention center floor (ahem, 'MythBusters' Adam Savage!) and stars do autograph signing sessions for their biggest fans.

But to actually get to sit in a room with the stars of a show as you're watching a never-before-seen episode of their show? Well, that's just a fan's dream come true.

I've just learned exclusively that the cast of Starz's 'Torchwood: Miracle Day' will be coming to the screening of the season's third episode tonight (Thurs., July 21, 9:30PM PT in Room 6DE).

So not only will fans get to see the episode early -- it doesn't air on Starz until tomorrow -- but they'll also get to see which parts make cast members John Barrowman, Eve Myles, Mekhi Phifer, Bill Pullman, Alexa Havins and writer/EP Jane Espenson smile, laugh and catch their breath.
