Ferris Bueller once said, "Life moves by pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."

And while that bit of movie trivia is actually true (unlike say "Stupid is as stupid does" or "Pain don't hurt"), if actual life went at the speed that 'Parenthood' does, stopping to look at it would require some kind of anti-lock braking system.

Michael Ausiello is reporting that filming of the second season of 'Spartacus: Blood and Sand' has been put off temporarily because of health problems that star Andy Whitfield is experiencing.

Whitfield has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and is undergoing treatment in New Zealand. Fortunately, the illness was caught early and Whitfield's prognosis is great. The show was supposed to start filming season two later this month but they will hold off until Whitfield gets better.

'Spartacus' airs Friday nights at 10 PM ET on STARZ.

I'm rooting for Tom Cavanagh. 'Ed' not only entertained me, it changed my life (but that's a whole other post). He hasn't had much luck since leaving that show, TV series-wise anyway. 'Love Monkey' was a good show but short-lived, and 'Trust Me' was a huge disappointment and vanished after one season (he has fared better in key minor roles on shows like 'Eli Stone'). But now Cavanagh has been cast in another role, and it's completely different than his other lead roles.

According to Michael Ausiello, Cavanagh had landed the lead role in the pilot for the new ABC drama 'Edgar Floats.' He'll play a police psychologist who is also a bounty hunter, so I'm thinking it's will be sorta kinda a mix of things like 'CSI' and 'Castle' and 'House.' No, he last name won't be floats. The title actually refers to him being adrift in his personal life.

This makes me want to get out my 'Ed' videotapes, and pray once again that the show will be released on DVD at some point.

The powers that be at ABC have good reasons to be feeling good about the network's success. They've had a really good year developing some new shows, like 'Modern Family,' 'The Middle' and 'Cougar Town' -- all of which have been given a renewal for next season. And today an established drama, 'Brothers and Sisters,' was given a fifth season pickup. You know what that means, don't you? Pop the cork! Let the merlot and pinot grigio flow, the Walkers and Ojai Foods are going to continue on for another year of whining and wining.

Entertainment Weekly's Hollywood Insider is reporting that the film version of the HBO series 'Rome' is pushing forward. The series creator Bruno Heller has written the script, and Morning Light Productions is on board to produce. EW says HBO won't be involved, but thinks two of the series stars, Kevin McKidd and Ray Stevenson, will be back.

There have been rumors kicking around for a while that there would be a movie version, (Stevenson talked about the script development in an interview with MovieWeb.com last year), but these are the first concrete details to emerge.

The move to the big screen makes sense. The series was still popular with fans and critics when it was canceled. But it was expensive to produce, which made it a hard series for HBO to commit to. The budget for a couple of episodes was probably similar to the budget for a feature film.

Heller can probably tell the story he wants to tell in one long movie, with less of a financial commitment, and, who know, possibly put himself in position to make more 'Rome' sequels. Which would be great for the series' fans.

Right now Kathy Bates is the new owner of Dunder-Mifflin on 'The Office,' but you know that her role on that show is going to be short-lived (even if Sabre does hold on to the paper company). However, that doesn't mean that Bates is leaving television.

Bates is talking to David E. Kelley about a starring role on his new NBC legal drama (Kelley seems to have a thing for legal shows, eh?) 'Kindreds.' She would play the head of the law firm.

'Kindreds' should not be confused with 'Kindred: The Embraced,' which was about vampires, not lawyers (insert your own joke here). 'Kindred: The Embraced' would probably be a hit if it had premiered today and not 1996.

With those very words, Bill released his family from four seasons of hiding and seclusion and finally brought his lifestyle and faith out in the open in a way very few fans could have seen coming. It was bound to go public somehow someway, but no one could have predicted it would have been on the steps of the state capitol as he accepts the keys to a state senate office.

So why did it feel so unfulfilling and empty?

Former 'Buffy' bloodsucker James Marsters starts his recurring gig on Syfy's 'Caprica' this Friday. Marsters plays cult leader and "one true God" worshipper Barnabus Greeley on the 'Battlestar Galactica' prequel series.

Syfy has sent out a sneak peek of Marsters' 'Caprica' debut, which features a grim-faced Barnabus talking to one of his followers and wrapping his arm in (yikes!) barbed wire:



Marsters is set to appear in five episodes of 'Caprica' this season. During a conference call with news outlets this week, he said the door was left open for his character to come back and possibly cause some more havoc for 'Caprica's V-club addicted, polytheistic ladies and gents.

Some of our favorite 'Friday Night Lights' graduates are starting to find their post-game footing.

Taylor Kitsch is heading to the big screen in 'John Carter of Mars', Minka Kelly is starring in a CBS comedy pilot, and Jason Street himself, Scott Porter, has landed a leading role in 'Nomads', the CW's adventure series pilot.

'Nomads' sounds like a welcome departure from the network's recent teen girl-friendly fare. The show follows a group of broke, young (and probably very sexy) backpackers working secret missions for the CIA abroad.

Christian Slater needs to pick better TV shows. Or at least pick TV shows that have some sort of chance of surviving. That's easier said than done, of course, or I'd be the most successful programmer in network history. Last year Slater starred in the short-lived 'My Own Worst Enemy' (a show I actually kinda liked) and now it looks like ABC's 'The Forgotten' is going to be short-lived too, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The March 23 episode was supposed to be the season finale, but ABC is pulling the show before then and the March 9 episode will be the season finale instead (no episode on March 16 either). And since ABC doesn't seem to have enough faith in the show to even let a couple more episodes air, we can pretty much bet that those "season finale" tags will be changed to "series finale" tags.

Maybe Slater should star in one of those 'NCIS'/'CSI'/'Criminal Minds' spinoffs that seem to happen every year. I can picture that.

Last week we had someone from Neal's past (Keller) coming back to cause problems, and I mentioned that it seems like the show does that a lot, a la 'Burn Notice.' And tonight continued that trend, with Wilkes coming into Neal's life, kidnapping a girl and wanting Neal to do some favors for him in exchange for the girl's life (of course, he has no intention of releasing the girl and would probably kill Neal too if he had to). The funny thing is, even though all these baddies from Neal's past keep making appearances, I bet none of them have anything to do with the Kate and the music box and none of them are the big bad guy in charge of everything.

What, you think it's actually Fowler? Yeah, right!

(S01E01) There are moments in 'Parenthood' that are so uncomfortably realistic that you might think it's a re-telling of the PBS series 'The Loud Family.' Yes, it's that real in some ways, but is it entertaining and inviting? Would you want to keep up with the Bravermans week after week? That depends. The show offers promise, but it's a jell-o that's yet to be jelled.

It would be hard for any series to go wrong with Lauren Graham and Peter Krause and Craig T. Nelson top-lining the cast. They all acquit themselves well, although the characters are all under more pressure than a pressure cooking with a faulty lid. You just sense explosions around every corner. And that's the way it is with a lot of pilots, especially where there's so large a cast.

Did you ever want to own the 'A-Team' van but the missus wouldn't let you blow Junior's college fund on a GMC van, the fancy paint job or the ton of golden neck jewelry? This may be the closest you'll ever get.

Universal Home Entertainment will release the entire series run on DVD on June 8th, just a few days before the big screen remake from director Joe Carnahan hits the screens.

Just look at it! It's the shape of the freakin' 'A-Team' van, quite possibly the coolest van in the history of vans. If Universal would be willing to sell just the box, I would gladly buy it just so I can store my bootleg 'Spaced' DVDs in it.

TV viewers often have "I wonder what would happen if ______ and ______ had a crossover episode?" fantasy. There have been many crossovers, of course. Everything from Jessica Fletcher appearing on 'Magnum, P.I.' to The Green Hornet and Kato appearing on 'Batman' and the recent crossovers we saw on all of the 'CSI' shows. Now 'White Collar' creator Jeff Eastin is talking about a crossover with another USA Network show.

In this conference call with TV critics, Eastin mentions that he'd love to do a crossover episode with 'Burn Notice.' He's friends with 'Burn Notice' creator Matt Nix and they've joked about it, but he might bring it up to USA for the second season (the season finale of 'White Collar' airs next Tuesday).

'Dexter' and 'Buffy' alum Julie Benz is heading back to genre TV with a role in the ABC drama pilot 'No Ordinary Family', says The Hollywood Reporter.

The show stars 'Shield' and 'Fantastic Four' vet Michael Chiklis as the head of a super-powered family. Benz will co-star as Chiklis' wife, a sexy scientist who develops super speed (the power, not the drug).

Despite the drab title, 'No Ordinary Family' is shaping up to be a must-see. Chiklis and Benz are two of TV's top actors, and the pilot is the brainchild of producer Greg Berlanti, a guy who knows a thing or two about creating compelling family drama (see 'Everwood', 'Dirty Sexy Money', 'Brothers & Sisters').
