Mike and Naomi Wrap 'The Real World: Las Vegas' by Getting Married (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 2nd 2011 3:02AM
'The Real World: Las Vegas' (Wed., 10PM ET on MTV) wrapped with Naomi marrying one of her housemates, while consummating the union with another. It was all in good fun, though Mike made sure she signed a prenuptial agreement toward any future earnings. So, was it real? The poor guy officiating hung in there, even though the vows took things in some very unexpected directions.
"I promise that I will work hard to make sure that I can somehow afford the lavish lifestyle you want to live," Mike said to Naomi.
"I appreciate how you were able to see beyond me having sex with your roommate all the time and [that] I might be doing it again tonight," she responded in her own vow.
June 2011 Calendar of Premieres, Specials and Finales
by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 1st 2011 4:00PM

In terms of premieres, June is becoming just like September and January on the television landscape.
What used to be the kick-off to a summer of repeats and reality shows has recently become a stomping ground for scripted fare across cable. That shift has made the hot days of June cool and fun, so long as your TV room is air conditioned.
Caught Naked and Singing on the Series Finale of 'Traffic Light' (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 1st 2011 2:35AM
It was a short run for 'Traffic Light' (Wed., 9:30PM ET on FOX), but the series wrapped on a memorable note. While Mike struggled with the over-exposed body of his teen baby-sitter, things were a whole lot more naked over at Adam and Callie's.Callie was making a stand against "society," which apparently meant going nude a lot around the apartment. While Adam wasn't sure how he felt about it, a delivery guy who helped them with some tech problems was even more unsure what was going on when he came in to find Callie naked and dancing.
Luckily, the guy turned out to be very understanding, and even managed to stick it out when Adam decided to prove he was just as liberated and free as Callie. So of course the guy came in on him naked and singing again. In the end, it was Adam naked and locked out of the apartment, which is where we 'Traffic Light.'
Are you sad to see it go?
'The Oprah Winfrey Show' Finale Gets Highest Ratings Since 1994
by Jean Bentley, posted May 26th 2011 2:30PM
It seems Oprah Winfrey's message of love and self-acceptance during the final episode of her talk show was enough to boost yesterday's goodbye to the top of the ratings.Despite the fact that none of the multitude of celebrities present at the taping in Chicago's United Center actually appeared during the episode, during which Winfrey looked back on her 25 years on television, the last installment of 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' scored a major 13.3 household rating.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, that's the biggest audience for a single episode since 1994. For a show that's been on the air for two and a half decades, that's a pretty respectable way to go out. The previous record-holder: a Feb. 21, 1994 show called 'People Shed Their Disguises,' "during which Winfrey convinced guests to stop hiding behind questionable style and grooming choices," THR reports.
'Cougar Town' Season 2 Finale Recap

['Cougar Town' - 'Something Good Coming']
Most people who watched tonight's season finale of 'Cougar Town' are fans of the show and have been watching all season, so the observation I'm about to make isn't going to come as a big surprise: Somehow, a show about a bunch of neighbors hanging out and drinking wine has actually managed to develop some pretty interesting stories.

Sure, last season there were some story arcs, namely Jules and Grayson getting together while Bobby worked out his feelings for his ex-wife. But for the latter half of season one and the first half of season two, the show was just trying to get its footing after shifting formats.
But as we close out the second season, you can see that some interesting storylines are setting themselves up for season three. So, while the Cul-de-Sac Crew might be gathering in Jules' kitchen with a few bottles of wine next season, there will be some fun stuff going on in between those visits.

'Modern Family' Season 2 Finale Recap

['Modern Family' - 'The One That Got Away']
If you read my 'Modern Family' recap last week, you'll remember that I said that last week's episode like it was a season finale, and wondered what we'd see tonight.
Well, tonight also felt like a season finale ... for at least a couple of minutes in the middle and at the end. Otherwise, it felt like just a normal episode, and not one of the show's strongest. Not that there's anything wrong with the former; not every show has to end a season with big events and cliffhangers. But the latter was a bit of a disappointment, given how strong last week's episode was.
What was the most fun about the episode, though, was that it centered on Ed O'Neill and the tough but loving character he plays, Jay. There hasn't been nearly enough Jay time this season, so it was good to see O'Neill get more or less the entire episode to remind people why he's been a sitcom stalwart for almost a quarter of a century (it's rough to write that, but it's true... 'Married... With Children' debuted 24 years ago).

'American Idol' Winner Scotty McCreery: 'I'm on Top of the World Right Now!'
by Catherine Lawson, posted May 26th 2011 5:30AM
After being crowned 'American Idol' Season 10 champ last night, teenage country singer Scotty McCreery headed backstage to talk to reporters about his momentous victory. How does it feel to be crowned 'American Idol'?McCreery told 'Entertainment Weekly' that, "[It] feels absolutely amazing. I mean, I'm on top of the world right now. It's just a moment I'll never forget."
The 17-year old said that while he had allowed himself to dream of winning the title, he'd managed to push those thoughts to one side and concentrate instead on the competition.
"You've got to control that. You've got to focus on what's ahead and focus on the song you're singing that week. Luckily, it's gotten me here."
'Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior' Goes Out on a Kidnapping Cliffhanger (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted May 26th 2011 4:09AM
Well, there's bad news and good probabilities for fans of the spin-off series 'Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior' (Wed., 10PM ET on CBS). The series wrapped its first season on a deadly cliffhanger, but the series has been cancelled. That's the bad news. Not only is the show ending after only 13 episodes, but time has run out and Beth's still in the hands of a man who is ready to kill her. Cooper's got a guy on the end of his gun wanting to just die as the time runs out, while Beth has a gun pointed at her.
In the closing seconds, the shot went all '24' on us as we saw both scenes and a clock ticking down the last remaining seconds. Then blackness. Then a gunshot. But what happened?
Penny Makes a Drunken Speech on 'Happy Endings' (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted May 26th 2011 3:59AM
'Happy Endings' (Wed., 10:30PM ET on ABC) closed its first season as it began: With a wedding. Only it wasn't Dave and Alex giving it a second go, it was an old friend of the gang's, Jason Shershow. The catch for Penny in this situation was that he was her "safety." They'd previously agreed that if neither of them were married by the time they reached 40, they'd marry each other. Only Shershow, as he explained it, is the guy who'll get mustard on his shirt when he's not even eating it. He's a classic screw-up.
Or at least he was. The gang decides at first that Max is the new Shershow, but when a drunken Penny gets up to give a speech at the new couples' engagement party, she may have just taken the crown. We heard more about it later, but it was when she leaned forward and fell off the stage, taking the podium with her, that we were sold.
'American Idol' Season 10 Finale: And The Winner Is ... (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted May 26th 2011 1:38AM
It's been a crazy ride this season on 'American Idol' (Wed., 8PM ET on FOX), but it came down to two country singers who aren't even old enough to vote yet. Scotty McCreery slowly expanded his vocal range as we moved along, while Alaina nearly didn't make the finale at all thanks to a blown vocal chord. They both gave it all they had, bringing us two new songs at the end of the performance night that we could both see as hits in country music radio. In fact, as far as their career potential goes, this result almost doesn't matter.
The night was so packed with special guests and performances from all the Top 13 Idols from Season 10 that by the time Ryan said to dim the lights, we couldn't believe it was already time to find out who'd won.
Lauren Alaina Performs With Her Idol Carrie Underwood on 'American Idol' (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted May 26th 2011 1:35AM
Poor Lauren Alaina. With an injured vocal chord, she was absent from much of the performances during the 'American Idol' (Wed., 8PM ET on FOX) finale. Probably she was saving her voice for her big duet with her own idol, Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood. The pair tackled Underwood's hit 'Before He Cheats,' but even in this performance, Alaina had to give more of the song to Underwood than was probably originally intended. Still, she was given her moments to shine, and it proved to be a very solid performance.
We couldn't help but think, while watching this finale, that the results almost don't matter. Both Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery have huge careers just waiting for them in country music. Alaina, however, has a better shot at the same crossover success Underwood has found in pop music.
Lady Gaga Falls From 'The Edge of Glory' on 'American Idol' Finale (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted May 26th 2011 1:30AM
As expected, Laday Gaga kept it weird on the 'American Idol' (Wed., 8PM ET on FOX) season finale. She performed her new single, 'The Edge of Glory,' from atop a makeshift cliff, starting off with a bizarre headpiece that made her head look like it was the same shape as Stewie's from 'Family Guy.'She stayed up there throughout the entire performance, though she still managed to strike some very shocking poses for a family show. Halfway through the performance, one of her dancers made his way up there with her, and it was none other than former 'So You Think You Can Dance' contestant Mark Kanemura.
He was always such a strange and unique performer on the show, we couldn't have picked a better place for his career to take him. Gaga and he got very intimate as the song came to a close, climaxing with a dramatic fall from the cliff.
Casey Abrams and Jack Black Like 'Fat Bottomed Girls' on 'American Idol' Finale (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted May 26th 2011 1:27AM
Throughout his time on 'American Idol' (Wed., 8PM ET on FOX) this season, Casey Abrams was always memorable and always a little ... unique. With his quirky sense of humor and no-holds-barred attitude on stage, there was really only one performer that could match him in personality and stage presence.A lot of people don't realize that Jack Black first came into the public eye as one half of musical duo Tenacious D. The pair tackled Queen's 'Fat Bottomed Girls,' and it was as silly and fun as you'd expect.
We don't know if Abrams has any acting ability, but if he can bring the same kind of charisma and charm he brought to the stage every week, we could see him making fun spot appearances in comedy films. The performance also made us wish we could get a new Tenacious D project before too long.
James Durbin Rocks Out With Judas Priest on 'American Idol' Finale (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted May 26th 2011 1:21AM
James Durbin didn't get to rock out with the resident rocker on the 'American Idol' (Wed., 8PM ET on FOX) finale, but he still got to take to the stage with a legendary band. It was a beautiful vocal harmony between Durbin and Judas Priest's Rob Halford as they tackled a medley of two of Priest's biggest hits.As we know you were anticipating, there was plenty of fire and explosions to help make sure we knew this was a James Durbin performance. All in all, he looked completely comfortable with the band and it was a great preview of the type of career he might have.
In a package on the most shocking elimination of the season, Durbin equated his own elimination to that of Chris Daughtry -- both wound up in fourth place.
