'Glee' Returns on April 13 (at 9:28, To Be Exact)

by Bob Sassone, posted Mar 26th 2010 12:31PM
GleeOK 'Glee' fans, get ready. If you've been waiting for the show to come back, a date has been set. The spring premiere of the FOX show will be on April 13, right after 'American Idol.' But that doesn't mean that the show will air at 9:30. The first episode back will actually start at 9:28!

If it's following 'American Idol' though I don't see how it's going to start at 9:28. The live episodes of 'Idol' are often a scramble at the end, aren't they? Maybe stuff like this gets people more interested in tuning in a little early just in case. The episode, which will feature Beatles' "Hello, Goodbye," runs until 10:30, which means that FOX will be cutting into local station time a bit.

It's funny that fans of 'Glee' are called "Gleeks." We still need a name for fans of TV Squad.

'Glee' Cast to Appear on 'Oprah'

by Allison Waldman, posted Mar 19th 2010 11:09AM

The first week in April will be tumultuous for the folks from 'Glee.' Sunday, April 4, is Easter, then on Monday, April 5, the gang will be at the White House for the annual Easter Egg festivities. Then on Wednesday, April 7, 'Glee' goes to 'The Oprah Winfrey Show'! They should sing 'My Kind of Town' as a tribute to Chicago when they get off the plane, don't you think?

Barry Manilow Would Love To Hear His Songs on 'Glee'

by Allison Waldman, posted Mar 18th 2010 1:01PM
barry_manilow_microphone_smilingBelieve it or not, Barry Manilow did not write the songs the whole world sings. He didn't even write that one. 'I Write the Songs' was composed by Bruce Johnston, which Barry readily admits whenever the subject comes up -- it's even in his Las Vegas concert show. However, Barry Manilow does have a huge catalog of songs that he has made famous, whether as a writer or singer. Therefore, why wouldn't he want Fox's 'Glee' to use his music for an episode? If it's good enough for Madonna, why not Barry?

Well, Barry thinks it's a great idea and did something about it. Ryan Seacrest reports that Manilow called him the other day to address rumors that he'll be on 'Glee' -- rumors that were news to me. Barry told Ryan that he hasn't received a phone call from 'Glee' yet, but he's willing. "It would be great."

He's even picked out a song that he would like to hear New Directions, the glee club on the show, sing. "I would love them do to 'One Voice.' That's the only thing I'd love to hear them do, but if they want to do my catalog, oh, I'd be right there." 'One Voice' is a great choice, too. It's basically a chorus piece and very relevant for the show.

TV Land Awards to Honor 'Glee,' Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner

by Allison Waldman, posted Mar 16th 2010 10:02PM
carl_reiner_mel_brooks_1963TV Land will be honoring some of the greats of television, some from the golden age of TV, some from just a few years back, and even the greats of tomorrow? How's that? Well, look at the line up: Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner, the creators of 'The 2000 Year Old Man' among other comic gems, the cast of 'Everybody Loves Raymond,' a salute to Farrah Fawcett by the other 'Charlie's Angel' stars, and with a wink toward the future, a celebration of 'Glee.'

The Annual TV Land Awards will be taped in Los Angeles on Saturday, April 17, for broadcast the following Sunday, April 25 at 9 PM ET on TV Land. Scheduled to appear are the 'Raymond' gang -- Ray Romano, Brad Garrett, Patricia Heaton, Doris Roberts; two of the 'Angels' -- Cheryl Ladd and Jaclyn Smith; and 'Glee' cast members Jane Lynch, Dianna Agron, Jayma Mays, Jessalyn Gilsig and Kevin McHale.

Ousted 'Idol' Singer Angles For Role on 'Glee'

by Allison Waldman, posted Mar 15th 2010 11:00AM
todrick_hall_american_idol_foxThere's something annoying about a shameless self-promoter. Granted, anybody who puts themselves in the circus that is 'American Idol' is a shameless self-promoter. Heck, if you're in show business at all, you probably qualify. But there are ways to push yourself forward without being smug or smarmy.

In USA Today, ousted 'American Idol' singer Todrick Hall wants to be on 'Glee.' He has made no secret of his desire, especially now that he's definitely not going to be the next 'American Idol.' With little humility, and less tact, Todrick turned his exit interviews from 'Idol' into a campaign to get on 'Glee.' He probably figures that they're both on Fox. They both feature singers and dancers. Surely, the 'Glee' folks would snatch up a good-looking performer like him.

'Glee' Lovefest Scores Record Attendance - PaleyFest Report

by John Scott Lewinski, posted Mar 14th 2010 7:00PM
The 'Glee' cast and creators brought a huge crowd to PaleyFest Saturday.
Saturday night's 'Glee' panel at the PaleyFest 2010 festival scored an all-time attendance record as a fire marshal's nightmare throng of screaming fans flooded into the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills.

Other panels during this 2010 session served up enthusiastic crowds -- especially 'Lost' and Seth MacFarlane's appearance -- but the 'Glee' crowd had the feel of a rock concert gathering, producing more applause and squeals per creator and cast member than any event this year's PaleyFest provided.

'Glee' Spring Premiere Set for April 13

by Allison Waldman, posted Mar 9th 2010 7:30PM
Glee_fox_2009_Rachel_FinnTonight, Fox is putting 'Glee' back in the line up. No, it's not a new show, but it is a chance to revisit and remind yourself that in only five week, new 'Glee' episodes will be back. That means, more music, more dancing, more Mr. Schu and ... wait for it ... more Sue Sylvester.

The folks at Fox are nearly as psyched about the show's return as the fans. When 'Glee' returns for the spring premiere on Tuesday, April 13, it will be big, reports The Futon Critic. It's so big that it's going to be going into the ten o'clock hour. Normally, Fox affiliates take over at ten with local news or syndicated programming. Not on April 13th.

Neil Patrick Harris Will Take on Will on 'Glee'

by Allison Waldman, posted Mar 5th 2010 10:01AM
neil_patrick_harris_singing_Tony_AwardsSo, this has all come together. CBS said okay. Joss Whedon came on board. And they named the character Bryan Adam, inspired by the Canadian pop star which must be some kind of tribute to Cobie Smulders' character Robin Scherbatsky on 'How I Met Your Mother.' All that's missing is Harold and Kumar dropping by for a blow.

In plain speak, 'Glee' will welcome Neil Patrick Harris for a guest role in an upcoming sweeps episode. The 'How I Met Your Mother' star has been rumored to be doing 'Glee,' but only if CBS let him appear on the competition during the heart of the TV season. It wouldn't be as bad if it was a summer series, but this is sweeps. That means some CBS show will be going up against Neil's 'Glee' episode. Michael Ausiello broke the details of Neil's character on the show. If you don't want to know, don't follow us on the jump. Just wander off and read the next story.

Fans Could Soon Find 'Glee' in Their Hometowns

by Jason Hughes, posted Mar 2nd 2010 4:40PM
GleeTaking a page from the successful annual 'American Idol' concert tours, 'Glee' co-creator Ryan Murphy is taking his own group of talented kids on the road. 'Glee Live! In Concert!' is a seven-show, four-city tour that features all the members of the William McKinley High School glee club performing some of their most popular numbers from the hit FOX series.

"The response of the fans to our little show has been so immediate and so gratifying, we wanted to get out and thank them live and in person," said Murphy. "We can't wait to take this show on the road and the actors couldn't be more excited to perform live for audiences in these four cities." The mini-tour kicks off May 18 in Phoenix, and continues through Los Angeles, Chicago and New York City.

The First Lady Summons 'Glee' to the White House

by Allison Waldman, posted Feb 22nd 2010 9:31PM
glee_white_gloves_foxWhen the White House calls, you sorta, kinda, have to rearrange the schedule and make room for a command performance. That's what's going on with Fox's hit show, 'Glee.' The First Lady and the First Daughters are big fans of 'Glee' and, according to Michael Ausiello in Entertainment Weekly, 'Glee's' been asked sing at the White House Easter Egg hunt on April 5. So despite the shooting schedule, they're going to rework things to meet the Obamas.

The 'Glee' singers are hot, hot, hot... and you can just see how Sasha and Malia are their target demographics, can't you? Michelle, too. Frankly, they don't need the eggs to get the White House rolling. "Don't Stop Believin'" will do the trick just fine.

WGA Awards Honor 'Mad Men,' '30 Rock' and others

by Allison Waldman, posted Feb 22nd 2010 1:00PM
writers_guild_award_trophyOn Saturday night, the Writers Guild of America revealed the big winners for 2010, honoring the best in TV, movies and other media, but for our purposes, let's just stick with television. And as such, we can say the they rounded up the usual suspects.

'Mad Men' was tops in Drama Series and '30 Rock' was tops in Comedy Series. There was something new honored, Best New Series was 'Modern Family,' but seeing how the category makes new a requirement, it's not that shocking that it won.

However, in the episodic categories, for individual shows, there were was variance. The pilot of 'Modern Family' won in a tie with '30 Rock' for the episode 'Apollo, Apollo.' And the two part episode of 'House' -- 'Broken, Part 1 and Part 2' -- overcame all the 'Mad Men' nominees to take the WGA prize.

Madonna is Weeping In the New 'Glee' Promo

by Kona Gallagher, posted Feb 17th 2010 1:02PM

We still have a month and a half until we get new episodes of 'Glee,' but FOX is giving us a little hint of what to expect in April. They've just released as 60-second clip that is chocked full of singing, dancing, slushies and Sue Sylvester threatening Will as only Sue can.

This second half of the season is being billed as "a new semester," and while the group may have won sectionals, not a whole lot has changed for them, as the slushies to the face evidence. However, not everything has stayed the same. In fact, it looks like Will has a whole lot of new stuff going on.

What Shows are On the Bubble?

by Allison Waldman, posted Feb 15th 2010 3:00PM
Fringe_fox_castIf you read Brad's take on The Hollywood Reporter list of endangered TV shows, you might be surprised that the 'experts' have some weak rated shows coming back for another season.

THR puts 'Community' in the safe category, giving it a 90% chance of renewal. It also put 'Chuck' in the 90% category.

Joe Adalian wrote about bubble shows on The Wrap, and he has 'Chuck' slam-dunking another renewal out of NBC. The surprises on his list was a death blow for 'Gary Unmarried' and 'Rules of Engagement.'

Really? That's not a certainty considering that 'Rules' hasn't even aired yet. It did well in the ratings last spring, enough to be a midseason renewal. And 'Gary' has performed on par with 'The New Adventures of Old Christine,' which has a good shot at being renewed.

Molly Shannon Latest Star Cast on 'Glee'

by Kona Gallagher, posted Feb 11th 2010 10:38AM
molly shannonLook, I'm not saying that 'Glee' can do no wrong (the fake pregnancy storyline obviously refutes that), but they sure do a lot of things right. Not only do they have Kristin Chenoweth returning, Idina Menzel joining the cast, but now Molly Shannon is coming to wreak havoc at McKinley High.

According to Michael Ausiello, Shannon is playing Brenda Castle, McKinley's newest astronomy teacher/ badminton coach (did your high school have either of these things? Mine sure didn't). Not only that, but she's set to become Sue Sylvester's arch-nemesis, which is brilliant for several reasons.

One, because if Sue Sylvester has another arch nemesis besides Will, then that means more screen time for Jane Lynch, which improves any show by at least 65% (FACT).

Neil Patrick Harris Adores 'HIMYM'

by Nick Zaino, posted Feb 4th 2010 8:11AM
Neil Patrick Harris on How I Met Your MotherIf anyone was getting nervous that Neil Patrick Harris's new gig hosting the game show 'The Cube' might mean his interest in 'How I Met Your Mother' was waning, worry no more. On Tuesday, Harris Tweeted the answer to a question no one has asked yet, that he is staying put on 'HIMYM.'

Harris's (subtly scatological) message, referring to 'HIYMYM' and 'The Cube,' both of which are CBS projects: "I'm never leaving HIMYM. That job rocks. This would just have me doing double duty on the Tiffany Network. (Huh, huh. I said double duty...)"
