If someone asked you to list the things Vanilla Ice is up to, the last thing you'd probably say is "Acting as a judge on a Canadian singing contest/TV show." But it seems Vanilla Ice (a.k.a. Robert Van Winkle) is doing just that.

Along with fellow judges Jann Arden and Pierre Bouvier (Simple Plan), Van Winkle is appearing on six-part original series 'Canada Sings.' The show challenges ordinary Canadians to form glee clubs with their co-workers and compete against another workplace team for a $10,000 donation to their charity of choice.

Unlike 'Idol,' these people have never sang before, and they're not seeking fame for themselves -- and that's partially what drew Van Winkle to the show. AOL TV caught up with the '90s phenomenon to talk about what brought him on board 'Canada Sings,' why he loves music and why this is anything but another 'Idol.'

'Homicide' meets 'Gangs of New York' for BBC America's first foray into original scripted drama.

The network announced that it has ordered a ten-episode period cop drama from Tom Fontana ('Oz') and Will Rokos ('Southland').

'Copper' is set in the notorious Five Points Irish neighborhood of New York City in the 1860s.

The executive producers include Fontana, Rokos, Barry Levinson ('Homicide: Life on the Street') and Christina Wayne ('Mad Men') of Canada's Cineflix Studios.

It's that dreaded time again. After 'So You Think You Can Dance Canada' reassigned partners, the Top 18 strutted their stuff and dazzled the audience with some fancy footwork. Unfortunately, hip-hop dancers Dwayne "Boneless" Gulston and Teya Wild somehow failed to connect with viewers and they were eliminated. Despite the outcome, the two were in high spirits as they spoke with AOL TV Canada about krumping and the recent disturbing hip-hop trend on the series.

The boys are back in town -- but not in the form we're accustomed to. Julian, Ricky and Bubbles of 'Trailer Park Boys' fame have now morphed into several new characters for their three-part television miniseries 'The Drunk and on Drugs Happy Funtime Hour.'

Set in the fictional town of Port Cockerton (but actually filmed in Halifax, Nova Scotia), this high-energy series finds the boys in the midst of shooting their new sketch-variety TV show called 'The Happy Funtime Hour.' It gets eerie when an actor hired to play an eccentric scientist (the late Maury Chaykin) assumes the personality of his character after synthesizing a powerful and addictive hallucinogen derived from local berries. Chaos ensues when the cast of the variety show ingests the drugs and begin to believe they really are the characters they portray on the show, and run amok throughout the small town.

AOL TV caught up with Mike Smith and Robb Wells on the set (an old N.S. motel), but strangely, John Paul Tremblay was nowhere to be found. Two of the troublesome trio let us know what to expect from 'Funtime Hour,' their drag queen character and why they want to defy the typical Canadian TV show.

Mideast peace crisis? Check. Mortality? Check. Discrimination? Check. Kenny Hotz is confronting all of the world's biggest issues in his new show, 'Kenny Hotz's Triumph of the Will.'

But don't worry -- this isn't a serious show featuring a goody-goody Kenny. You'll get to see all of the famous controversial Kenny antics you've grown to know and love over the years, on a much bigger scale. Remember how on 'Kenny vs. Spenny' Kenny would do anything to win, whether it was moral or not? Well, he's applying that approach to his new missions on 'Triumph.'

'So You Think You Can Dance Canada's elimination night is never easy for anyone, and after landing in the bottom three last week, salsa dancer Lauren Lyn and hip-hop dancer Rodrigo Basurto bounced back with a high-octane, swag-tastic hip-hop number. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to keep them around and the charismatic couple was sent packing.

Jumping on the phone with AOL TV Canada, Lauren and Rodrigo spoke about six-packs, injuries and impressing the judges.

The newly Emmy-nominated classic Canadian series 'Degrassi' is returning for an eleventh season (can you believe it?!) -- again, as it was last year, in telenovela style. Are you ready for seven straight drama-packed weeks of teen angst, heartbreaking sorrow and adolescent hormones? Cuz that's what's coming.

Season 11 of 'Degrassi' introduces three new characters, and takes on issues like gang violence, drug abuse, bullying, gender identity, sexuality and teen parenthood. As the school year draws to a close and the senior class prepares to graduate and move on, everyone realizes they'll only be in high school once so it's now or never -- so expect the sparks to fly.

Just when you thought things couldn't get any stranger in Haven, the police chief crumbles to pieces (quite literally) and a mystery woman shows up claiming to be the 'real' Audrey Parker (Emily Rose). So, yeah. Season 1 of the popular sci-fi show ended on a rather mysterious note.

Season 2 of 'Haven' premieres this week, and the first episode raises more questions than it answers. The 'other' Audrey is still around, Nathan (Lucas Bryant) is grieving for his dead father, and Duke (Eric Balfour) has to deal with a mystery woman from his past who blows into town out of nowhere.

Intrigued? AOL TV caught up with Balfour to get more details about what we can expect from Season 2. We also got the scoop on some of his other highly anticipated projects, including the film adaptation of 'Jesus Hates Zombies' that he's directing, and his role as Bobby Beausoleil in the upcoming 'Manson Girls' movie.

No one wants to be sent home (especially first!), but on last night's 'So You Think You Can Dance Canada,' jazz dancer Cassandra Flammini and contemporary dancer Adam Asselin-Rioux were season 4's first eliminated contestants.

It was especially bittersweet for Montreal's Adam A, who, after just not making the top 22, was called in last minute to replace an injured Moses. AOL TV Canada caught up with Cassandra and Adam A, who reflected on what went wrong and their future plans.

As a comic book collector for 16 years and an attendee of nearly every comic convention in my city, I thought I had the fandom thing nailed down. Then I watched 'Fanboy Confessional' and realized I still had a lot to learn.

Narrated by Aaron Ashmore ('Smallville's Jimmy Olsen), the six-part Canadian documentary series goes deep into the subterrane of geekdom to expose the lesser-known subsets of fandom. Turns out just being a comic book geek isn't enough anymore. Now, the real hardcore fans aren't satisfied unless you're a cosplayer, LARPer, zombie walker, furry, steampunk or real-life superhero. Confused? That's why we asked reformed fanboy and show creator Michael McNamara to walk us through each group he investigated in the series.

On the surface, it seems like the team is trying to make Rebecca feel like more a part of the group on 'Combat Hospital' (Tue., 10PM ET on ABC), but she's simply not allowing them in emotionally. We thought their reaction to the spider incident was hilariously appropriate.

Rebecca started what turned out to be a pretty tough day by discovering an enormous spider in the shower with her. So, rather than run out of the room, or simply getting away from it, she simply pulled out a gun and shot it. In a war zone.

So it wasn't the smartest move, but in her defense the spider was pretty impressive and intimidating. Still, she didn't look too amused by the ribbing she got -- a full medal ceremony and a genuine Spider Combat Action Ribbon. If we'd killed that spider, we'd wear that medal with pride!

Contrary to popular belief, Canadians can be sexy. REALLY sexy. This weekend, both Canadians and Americans have something to celebrate. In Canada, we have Canada Day, and in the US, it's the Fourth of July. It's only once a year that the neighboring countries have patriotic holidays so close together.

In a more TV-related vein, one of the less-remarked-on revelations from the WikiLeaks cables that came out last year concerned Canadian television. American policy analysts expressed concern about the negative views of Americans being shown in Canadian shows like 'The Border' and 'Little Mosque on the Prairie.' Apparently, the border guards and customs officials seemed kind of mean, and this had ramifications for American homeland security.

Frankly, I was more surprised that anyone was watching 'The Border' that closely.

The 'Rookie Blue' set is buzzing as the cast and crew work away on Season 2. The biggest change here since Season 1 is the addition of a toilet in one of the cells –- part of the painstaking efforts to make the show as realistic as possible.

The breakout hit from last summer is filmed on location across Toronto, but its base is here, inside a non-descript warehouse just outside the downtown core. Right now the cast is gathered in the briefing room as the crew films a meeting scene from every possible angle. While the rookies may not be brand spanking new, they still have a lot to learn. Season 2 has lots of curveballs in store, including the addition of Lauren Holly ('Dumb & Dumber') in a recurring role.

We caught up with stars Missy Peregrym, who plays Andy, and Gregory Smith, who plays Dov, between takes to get the rundown on what to expect from their sophomore season. (Hint: there's gonna be a love triangle!) They also dish on second-season jitters, newly found admirers and feedback from real-life cops.

The hot afternoon sun is sweltering on the Toronto set of 'Combat Hospital,' a new medical drama that's supposed to be taking place in Kandahar, Afghanistan. As the sun beats down on the expansive set meticulously lined with shipping containers, a military helicopter, blast walls and a sign that says 'Welcome to Kandahar Airfield,' it's easy to forget we're standing in the middle of Toronto and not out in the sweltering Afghan desert.


'Combat Hospital' stars movie vets Elias Koteas ('The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,' 'Shutter Island') and Deborah Kara Unger ('Crash,' 'The Hurricane') in their first TV roles. This isn't the first time they've worked together -- they both starred in David Cronenberg's 'Crash' in 1996, and were thrilled to team up again.

"I adore Deborah. She's probably the smartest person in the room at any given time," says Koteas. Unger is happy they're both losing their TV virginity together. "This is an exciting adventure for us," she says.

Michelle Borth (Hawaii Five-0'), Arnold Pinnock ('Life With Derek'), Luke Mably ('The Gates') and Terry Chen ('Almost Famous') round out the primary cast.
