EXCLUSIVE 'How I Met Your Mother' Clip: Making Of 'Subway Wars'

by Jean Bentley, posted Sep 27th 2011 2:05PM
How I Met Your Mother, Subway WarsIn honor of today's release of 'How I Met Your Mother: The Complete Sixth Season' on DVD and Blu-ray, AOL TV has an exclusive clip from one of the set's extra features.

In the 'Subway Wars' episode, the gang raced from the Upper West Side to Tribeca (for you non-New Yorkers, that's a short distance, mile-wise, but a long distance when you're in a city crowded with 8 million people) using their preferred method of transportation: Lily took the subway, Ted took the bus, Marshall ran, Robin hailed a cab and Barney ... ate a steak, faked a heart attack and cruised in an ambulance.

Check out the clip below for a behind-the-scenes look at Neil Patrick Harris filming the episode, plus his thoughts on why Barney's way downtown was the best.

EXCLUSIVE: The Everglades Shine in This 'The Glades' Season 1 DVD Clip

by Jean Bentley, posted Jun 23rd 2011 2:30PM
The GladesA&E's summer series 'The Glades' is replete with crazy characters. After all, you'd expect nothing else from a show that follows a homicide detective in Florida.

But aside from the actual people who populate Palm Glade, there's another character at work on the show: The Florida Everglades.

The swampy landscape is a unique setting for a murder investigation series, especially since many other shows tend to hit up the flashier Florida locales (Miami, anyone?)

After the jump, check out an exclusive clip from a featurette on 'The Glades' season 1 DVD, out now from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment (on Blu-ray, too!), in which the show's stars discuss a major character: the Glades themselves.

'South Park' and New TV Shows on DVD, Streaming Online for April 26, 2011

by Mike Moody, posted Apr 26th 2011 5:00PM
south park 14Yes, many people are still watching 'South Park' 14 seasons after its Comedy Central debut. Should you still be watching 'South Park'? Depends.

Do you like to laugh until your sides hurt and your eyes tear up? Does cheering on an aging but still sharp franchise that somehow manages to stay relevant sound appealing to you? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you should probably pick up a copy of 'South Park' The Complete Fourteenth Season on Blu-ray or DVD today.

The show might be a bit past its prime, but it still takes more risks and delivers more jokes per episode than anything else on TV. Season 14's targets include Facebook, NASCAR and, most famously, the Muslim prophet Muhammad.

'Glee: Encore' and New TV Shows on DVD, Streaming Online for April 19, 2011

by Mike Moody, posted Apr 19th 2011 3:00PM
Glee Encore blu-rayWhy on Earth would Fox release a DVD featuring the "most sensational" musical numbers from 'Glee''s first season and none of the other scenes -- you know, the ones with actual dialogue and jokes about hepatitis and waterboarding? Lots of reasons actually.

'Glee: Encore,' released today on DVD and Blu-ray, will appeal to parents wanting to share their favorite 'Glee' musical performances with their little Gleeks-in-training (or force them down their throats) without worrying about exposing them to the show's more mature content. This set is also perfect for viewers who want to cut straight to Finn and crew belting out 'Don't Stop Believen' and 'Jessie's Girl' and avoid fast-forwarding through all the relationship drama and slushie tossing.

The barebones single-disc package offers 34 musical bits from the series' debut season, including memorable sequences like Sue Sylvester's 'Vogue,' Mercedes' rockin' version of Christina Aguilera's 'Beautiful,' and Kurt's winning rendition of 'Rose's Turn.' (Sorry, no 'Over the Rainbow' or 'Poker Face.)

'H.R. Pufnstuf' and New TV Shows on DVD, Streaming Online for April 12, 2011

by Mike Moody, posted Apr 12th 2011 5:00PM
Vivendi EntertainmentWhat is it about kids' shows? They're the trippiest things on TV. Remember that ghastly Baby Sun from 'The Teletubbies'? That was weird, but nothing compares to 'H.R. Pufnstuf,' the show that made America wonder, "What they hell were they smoking when they made this!? And where in San Francisco can I get some?"

Sid and Marty Krofft's first live-action, giant puppet series premiered in 1969 and held the nation's children in its colorful, hallucinogenic grip for three seasons as part of NBC's Saturday morning lineup. Now you can relive the long, strange trip with 'H.R. Pufnstuf' The Complete Series and Collector's Edition, released today on DVD.

The three-disc package is pretty much a re-release of the Complete Series box that came out a few years ago, but the newer set features an H.R. Pufnstuf Bobblehead plus a rare episode of the 'Pufnstuf' spinoff 'Horror Hotel.' It's a must-buy for Krofft completists (and perhaps a fun gift for the 'Mr. Show' fan in your life).

'Friday Night Lights' and New TV Shows on DVD, Streaming Online for April 5, 2011

by Mike Moody, posted Apr 5th 2011 2:30PM
friday night lights season 5 dvdIn a way, it's a good thing that 'Friday Night Lights' is now over. The entire series can now be viewed as a complete masterwork on DVD, with the fifth and final season hitting stores today.

The fantastic drama about a small Texas town has languished in the ratings. Despite endless praise from critics and devoted fans, a public enraptured by reality TV and forensic science neglected the show, relegating the Dylan Panthers and their cheering section to the bottom of the Nielsen charts. But, somehow, the TV gods allowed 'FNL' to continue spinning its inspiring, captivating and ultimately heroic tale for five seasons.

In the end, some characters moved on, some stayed put, and showrunner Jason Katims smartly shined the spotlight on the series' star players, Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton.

The Season 5 DVD features final-episode commentary from Katims as well as a tearjerker featurette about the show's five-season run. Buy it!
