NBC isn't even safe from Kenneth the Page

by Kona Gallagher, posted Jan 14th 2010 2:35PM
kenneth the page tonight show
Since I am not directly involved in the Late Night Wars of '10, I find them incredibly amusing. Letterman is working out all of his latent Leno rage on air, Craig Ferguson is burning any bridges to NBC, Jimmy Kimmel is doing some sort of kinky role-playing, and Conan is just basically giving the middle finger to everyone, every single night now. Late night hasn't been this interesting since Conan O'Brien, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert all just kicked each other's asses on the air-- and that was only one night!

Now, even Kenneth the Page (Jack McBrayer) is getting into the fray. He made an appearance last night on The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien, during Conan's monologue. He was there to give a studio tour, as pages are wont to do, and he was showing the tourists the former home of The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien. Or, as he corrected himself, "the soon-to-be former home."

What You Missed Last Night: The Daily Show predicts the future!

by Bob Sassone, posted Jan 14th 2010 1:00PM
Every day on the morning shows, daytime shows, and cable shows, we see various "experts" and "trendspotters" who tell us what fashion, food, toy, and/or tech product is going to be the next big thing. Often these are ridiculous predictions, as The Daily Show pointed out last night.

I'd write more, but my flowers are boiling over.

What You Missed Last Night: more Letterman comments about NBC

by Bob Sassone, posted Jan 13th 2010 10:20AM
I'm not trying to post David Letterman's posts about NBC every single day, but he has made a lot of interesting (and very funny) observations about Leno, Conan, NBC, and the late night wars in general. He's been there since the beginning of all this, of course, and is probably grateful he's now on the sidelines.

What You Missed Last Night: Letterman's comments about NBC

by Bob Sassone, posted Jan 12th 2010 12:45PM
While all of the crazy things are happening over at NBC (something they must be a bit embarrassed about but at the same time loving the attention that Jay and Conan are getting), one of the winners might be David Letterman. He's over there on CBS, safe in his job, chuckling that he already went through all of this years ago. Last night he made some comments about it, first in his monologue and then (after the jump) at his desk.

What You Missed Last Night: Jimmy Kimmel on the NBC chaos (with a special guest star)

by Bob Sassone, posted Jan 9th 2010 1:19PM
We've heard from Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien about the NBC shake-up, even Craig Ferguson. But what about Jimmy Kimmel? He addressed it on last night's show, complete with a pumpkin pie and a special guest star in the audience.

Craig Ferguson weighs in on the Conan/Leno debacle

by Kona Gallagher, posted Jan 8th 2010 5:30PM
craig ferguson
We heard a lot yesterday about NBC's crazy attempt to save their sinking ship by moving around their late night shows. The whole situation is very confusing, and at the end of it NBC will probably end up with some sort of all-singing, all-dancing six-hour block of Leno, Conan, Fallon, Dateline and Law & Order. Everyone will continue to forget that Carson Daly is on the network.

With all of the talk coming out of NBC, I was kind of curious to see what the late night competitors had to say about the whole matter. Luckily, Craig Ferguson took some time to poke fun at the chaos and, more importantly, relate it to his show, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.

What You Missed Last Night: a Jay Leno Show sketch that's actually kinda funny

by Bob Sassone, posted Jan 8th 2010 12:45PM
Yes, Jay Leno talked about the whole NBC mess during his monologue last night, but this is something else. Leno showed a clip from what happened to one of the Jay Leno Show staff members during Christmas. You'll probably see the punchline coming a mile away, but it's still sort of amusing.

Fans mobilize to save Better Off Ted

by Kona Gallagher, posted Jan 7th 2010 11:02AM
better off ted
Frankly, I was surprised that ABC gave Better Off Ted a second season at all. Don't get me wrong, I was pleasantly surprised, because I absolutely adore the show, but ABC didn't seem to have much confidence in it, and ratings weren't exactly out of this world. So, as a fan, I guess I should be thankful that I'm still seeing new episodes, but I'm still kind of annoyed that ABC seems to be burying this hilarious show.

Along with Zombie Scrubs, it was basically the only new show on the air over the holidays-- when nobody was home to watch. They're doubling up episodes and seem to be burning them off as quickly as possible. Fans have already seen the writing on the wall, and are beginning to mobilize to save Ted. Between the #saveted hashtag on Twitter, and the new site, SaveBetterOffTed.com, people are letting it be known that they do not want this show to go off the air.

Mariah Carey stumbles at People's Choice Awards

Mariah Carey stumbles at People's Choice Awards 2010Dear Mariah Carey,

I know that you're a big diva, and that you like being a big diva and will do just anything to keep that persona going. But it just seems to me that if you're going to an awards show where you might possibly be walking onstage to accept an award, you should have a dress and shoes you can walk in.

Maybe you like having hubby Nick Cannon help you onstage, like he did at last night's People's Choice Awards. Maybe he likes it. Maybe it helps the whole diva thing -- "ooh, I can't even move without someone helping me." But it's not really doing much for your image. Come to think of it, neither is your drunk speech at the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards a couple of nights ago.

What You Missed Last Night: Triumph goes to a dog spa

by Bob Sassone, posted Jan 6th 2010 11:00AM
Whether you love Conan's Tonight Show or hate it, you have to admit there aren't many "must see" segments on the show. Most of them are the segments where Conan or someone else goes on location somewhere. Like last night, when Triumph The Insult Comic Dog visited a spa that caters to dogs.

I'd like to see a casino for turtles.

What You Missed Last Night: Colbert gets a new set and an HD upgrade

by Bob Sassone, posted Jan 5th 2010 1:15PM
It's a new year, and that means new beginnings for all of us, including The Colbert Report, which got a new set and a new HD look. Last night he said goodbye to the old set and hello to his new one. In these clips you can't see the two objects he has off to the side on his desk.

What You Missed Last Night: It's 1984 on The Cleveland Show

by Bob Sassone, posted Jan 4th 2010 11:01AM
I don't laugh much at The Cleveland Show, but I laughed at this from last night's episode. It opened with a flashback to 1984, and the show riffed on shows and movies that do everything they can do make us understand what year it is, from having songs from that year on the soundtrack, references to things in the news, and the clothes that the characters are wearing. I ain't 'fraid of no ghost!

Wallace should be carrying a Mac though.

What?! Bruce Jenner doesn't have his own credit card?

by Jane Boursaw, posted Jan 4th 2010 9:00AM
Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Bruce JennerI admit it. I'm hooked on Keeping Up With the Kardashians, and I have no idea why. Clearly, I need to get a life.

Anyway, last night's episode revolved around the fact that Kris has control of all the money, to the point where Bruce doesn't have his own bank account or even his own credit card, for that matter. Well, that might not be true. When the girls were razzing Kris and rifling through her wallet, they pulled out a card with Bruce's name on it (among the 53 other credit cards of Kris's).

But it sounds like all Bruce gets is an ATM card, and even then, he has to run purchases by Kris first. He wanted to buy a new remote-controlled helicopter which, at this stage of the game, he should be able to do. But Kris wasn't too keen on the idea. Meanwhile, she goes out and buys a $4,000 dress that the girls deemed not that special.

It's no secret that Kris is a bit of a control freak, but doesn't it seem weird that Bruce doesn't have his own account or credit card?

What You Missed Last Night: Kathy Griffin swears (again) on CNN

by Bob Sassone, posted Jan 1st 2010 1:00PM
This was probably expected, but last night Kathy Griffin said the F-word while co-hosting New Year's Eve coverage on CNN with Anderson Cooper. Here's the video. I guess you can't have a time delay in a show that has a live countdown to New Year's Eve.

What You Missed Last Night (and two weeks ago): Phantom of the Oprah

by Bob Sassone, posted Dec 30th 2009 1:03PM
The late night shows are in repeats this week. Last night Jimmy Kimmel showed an episode from a couple of weeks ago (a practice that I hate) with a segment that I thought was worth posting: The Phantom of the Oprah.

It's pretty funny, even if the "Phantom of the Oprah" joke was made on Wings about 15 years ago.
