The Office' Cast's Favorite Episodes

    Steve Carell
    Plays: Michael Scott

"I really liked 'Diversity Day.' B.J. Novak wrote an episode that was among the first six that we did, and it was one of the first that kind of set our show apart and started us on our path. The pilot had been a word-for-word version of the BBC show, and I think it was the second or third episode that was 'Diversity Day.' And it was a little scary -- it was kind of daring, it was a little risky in terms of the subject matter [laughs], but I think that was good. I think that set a tone for what the show wanted to achieve."

"Well, I've written a number of weird episodes -- very strong episodes -- but my favorite episode is 'The Secret' from season 2, that Gene [Stupnitsky] and Lee [Eisenberg] wrote, where Jim tells Michael to keep the secret about him being in love with Pam. It's just my favorite. I love whenever Michael has to do anything which is just utterly outside of his abilities, and he tries very hard. And I just really love that episode."

"Well, obviously 'Gay Witch Hunt' is one that was amazing, but I also liked 'Diversity Day.' B.J. [Novak] wrote that one and that was one of the very early ones, and that's when I knew like, This is a really funny episode."

"I'd have to say 'Booze Criuse,' because in the deleted scenes, even though it didn't air, I got to play guitar and rock the joint, you know. That was a lot of fun. Also 'Casual Friday' -- I have a scene in there that John [Krasinski] and I did, and I enjoyed doing that a lot. Remember the end of 'Boogie Nights'? With that prosthetic piece? I don't want to say any more than that ... [laughs]."

"My favorite episode is 'The Injury.' It has my all-time favorite Michael talking head. He explains how he burned his foot on a George Foreman Grill and at the end he says, 'Why is that so hard to understand?,' as if he's explained it to the film crew a million times. I just love it. I also love it because it is the first time Pam and Dwight are friends. I had a bunch of scenes with Rainn and he made me break again and again. One time he just walked up to my desk, didn't say a word and I broke. It's because he was breathing funny."

"I'd say 'The Injury,' written by Mindy Kaling. It is very funny in unique ways and that's a very hard combination. Most things in comedy ... if it's funny it's because it's a classic comedy structure, but this is entirely original."

"There was the one where B.J. [Novak] was at a club in New York ['Night Out']. I like that one. Possibly the favorite. I like 'The Injury.' There's a talking head in 'The Injury' where Michael talks about how he likes bacon in the morning. That may be one of my favorite moments in the show."

"Yeah, we have to mix the experience of shooting it with the actual episode that airs, so I'd probably say 'Booze Cruise' is still my favorite. It was the moment where I knew that the writers were to be trusted entirely ... that they really are the ones that make the show work. So when we were up on that deck and I was supposed to say something and I didn't, I was really, really proud to be part of the show."

"It's really hard not to give you like a list. I loved the very first Christmas episode ['Christmas Party'], that was one of my very favorite ones. I felt like that's when we turned a corner too, with our audience. It's just like, everything started clicking. And just the whole Secret Santa swap -- the Yankee swap!"

"My favorite episode is an often-picked fan favorite episode called 'The Injury' where Dwight gets a concussion and Michael burns his foot in his George Foreman grill. To me that just kind of defined the show and was brilliant. There's so many favorites, obviously. Top 3 favorite scenes I've ever done on the show was the musical courting of Erin in the break room [this season]."
