Back to Fall TV Preview: Returning Shows
'Criminal Minds'
CBS
Where We Left Off: Wondering whether this band can really stay together. Sure, J.J. made a welcome return in the finale, even if the logic had more to do with off-screen financial realities than on-screen story imperatives. But Thomas Gibson's ominous warning of changes to come struck a worrying chord among viewers all too aware that his contract had yet to be resolved.
What's Next: Gibson finally re-upped, after CBS agreed to double his pay and then some, so that's settled. But the casting shuffle continues, with Rachel Nichols departing and Paget Brewster staging a return. The network had better hope that its sea-sick audience doesn't decide the nausea isn't worth it.
Season 7 premieres Wed., Sept. 21, 9PM ET on CBS
