This gripping Showtime series is a terrific showcase for its great lead actors, Claire Danes and Damian Lewis, but Mandy Patinkin has more than held his own as a career CIA agent who has sacrificed everything to keep America safe. Saul could have been a generic supporting character, but the writers and Patinkin have made Saul deeply compelling by showing us his specific heartaches and letting us observe his quiet perseverance.
