No other character in TV history has ever used silence to such devastating effect. Gus' stillness and attentiveness made him all the more intimidating; he only talked when necessary and the consequences of not listening to this ferociously intelligent drug dealer were severe. No matter how much we found out about Gus, thanks to Giancarlo Esposito's tremendously disciplined performance, the core of this fastidious man was always a mystery, and that's what makes him a character for the ages.
