The charmingly strait-laced, cherry-pie-loving G-man of David Lynch's surrealist procedural possessed an impressive combination of old-fashioned sleuthing smarts and otherworldly intuition. Remember, this is a man who not only deconstructed the double life of murder victim Laura Palmer, but also made several key discoveries in the course of a single dream. Unfortunately, even Kyle MacLachlan's skills were no match for the spaghetti-shaped plot lines that emerged during the show's inferior second season, but that doesn't make the role any less iconic.
