Korean War hero and former inmate of San Quentin, Jim Rockford (James Garner) was as much a con artist as he was a straight P.I. He took on cases the police didn't want, finding them through messages left on his answerphone, and he investigated using a series of aliases backed up with phony business cards he printed in the back of his car.
