BBC America
'State of Play,' 10PM ET, BBC America: This is not the 2009 film starring Russell Crowe; BBC America is re-airing the original 2003 British miniseries on which the film was based. I've never bothered with the Crowe movie, because I don't know how you could improve on the original, which is an incredibly enjoyable and sensationally acted miniseries about the seamy intersection of politics, the police and the media (the dissection of skulduggery in high places certainly feels quite timely). Bill Nighy, Kelly Macdonald, James McAvoy, David Morrissey, John Simm and Polly Walker star, and if you need to know more about this top-notch six-parter, I wrote about 'State of Play' at length here.
