Recently canceled shows I mourn

There will always be Buffy, Angel, Quantum Leap and Magnum, P.I. on my "Oh Man I Want New Episodes of These Shows" list, but what about the more recently canceled shows of the past few years? Are there any worth mourning? Maybe not in the same way I mourn my culty loves and classic '80s shows, but there are a few worth mentioning.... Moonlight Yep, I know, I am one of Those People -- a fan of Moonlight. Though I agree it was weak when it returned after the writer's strike, there were lots of things to love about this show: the vampire lore, the episodic mysteries, the way they could have taken the love story (had they not muffed it up in the last four episodes), the actors (Jason Dohring and Alex O'Laughlin; not Sophia Myles). I can't believe that I won't find out more of the back story with Joseph's family and Coraline....

Nina Tassler responds to Moonlight fans ... sort of - TCA Report

After I posted about what CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler said about Moonlight the other day -- namely that the campaign to save it was "actor-driven" instead of show-driven -- angry comments came in from all the "loyal" fans of the show out there (I put the word "loyal" in quotes because Moonlight fans make the Jericho fans look cool and collected). Most of those fans said that Tassler was a liar. One even went so far to attach the b-word to his invective. You'd have thought that Tassler drained these people's 401(k)'s and skipped off to Central America. Anyway, I caught up with Tassler at the CBS party that night, and I told her about the comments I was getting. When I speculated that I didn't even think the Jericho fans were that passionate, she retorted, "I think they were. The Jericho fans ... I spent a lot of time looking the blogs and the website. Look, I don't want to say Moonlight fans weren't fans of the show. They were. But in sort of sifting through all of it (the e-mails, etc.) it was...

Judge Alex loses in court

By a vote of 8-1, the highest court in the land has ruled against Alex Ferrer, Judge Alex. Now, we're not talking the Emmy judges, ruling against the TV show. This is the real legal business, not the Let's Make A Deal-justice of the sort Judge Alex is all about. The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled against him. Ferrer, star of the syndicated court show Judge Alex, a former police officer and Florida judge, had brought a case before the high court involving a dispute over commissions he supposedly owed to a former associate, Arnold Preston. ...

Cane: The Two Alex Vegas

(S01E03) So I was beginning to have really mixed feelings about this show. I loved the classic themes and plots which allow for so many storylines and conflicts. And of course, no one can argue with this ensemble cast. But I felt like the story wasn't pulling me in and Alex's character wasn't believable or appealing. (I know it's TV so "believable" is a huge demand, but I mean that brand of TV believable.) I watched last week and had this sense that something was just missing. Maybe it has too many characters. Maybe it has too many storylines. Maybe CBS keeps these storylines a little too PG for a show that's slated for 10 p.m. (HBO could turn this plot and this cast into the just-can't-miss-it television that populates the Sunday night time slots.) But tonight, all my mixed feelings about Cane started to disappear......

A Tale of Two Alex

Oops, they did it again... Tonight on ER,  Nurse Spaz, excuse me, Nurse Sam's high strung juvenile delinquent twerp son Alex evidentally stole a new face! I didn't even know it was the character until she hugged him at the end, then I called shenangigans for Sam molesting strangers kids in strange ERs.The soaps have made a habit of going from newborn baby to angst ridden teenager in 5 short years, but I hate it when networks shows switch actors mid stride. It never worked in Bewitched, or Roseanne and it doesn't work now!...

Woman Flirts with Bailiff on 'Judge Alex' (VIDEO)

A plaintiff on 'Judge Alex' (weekdays, syndicated) flirts with bailiff Victor Simon, pausing in the middle of her testimony to show him a pair of high heels and ask whether he finds them sexy. "They're sexy," Simon replied, clearly enjoying the attention. "Actually, those are standard issue for the nurses in your dreams, aren't they?" Judge Alex asked Simon. Watch the video after the jump....

Judge Alex Chastises Phone Sex User (VIDEO)

Judge Alex Ferrer, never afraid to tell it like it is, did his best to make sense of a case involving a phone sex user who ran up charges on his grandmother's phone bill. "This is grandmother's house, I don't even know that I can get in that kind of mood at grandmother's house," the good judge said on 'Judge Alex' (weekdays, syndicated). The sex chatter's defensive? He snuck into his grandmother's house, she didn't know he was there. Yeah, that makes it all better. Watch the video after the jump....

Judge Alex Calls Plaintiff and Defendant 'Idiots' (VIDEO)

Things get heated between a plaintiff and defendant on 'Judge Alex' (weekdays, syndicated), before the judge interrupts and criticizes their poor conduct. Clearly irritated, the judge accuses the two of behaving like children, then scolds them for arguing. "You sound like idiots," he said. Watch the video after the jump....

In Treatment: Alex-Week One

(S01E02) "I was told you were a good listener." - Alex I was pleased to see that the second episode seemed a little more light-hearted. Since Blair Underwood is a new patient, things start off a bit lighter. Gabriel Byrne even attempts a little joke, a very little joke. Sadly, that failed joke set the tone for much of the episode....

Defendant and Plaintiff Ignore Judge Alex (VIDEO)

Sometimes you just gotta butt out. That was Judge Alex's attitude when the defendant and plaintiff in a case on Thursday's 'Judge Alex' (weekdays, syndicated) show began arguing with each other, totally ignoring the judge and the audience. Judge Alex fiddled around with some papers, engaged the bailiff in a conversation, then begins to whistle. Order in the court....

Alex O'Loughlin: In the Limelight - VIDEO

I've admitted it already: I watch Moonlight. It may not be the best new series of the year but it's entertaining and has a lead character that makes a lot of female TV fans melt. Before Moonlight, I had no idea who Alex O'Loughlin was. My own curiosity added to all the comments I've read here in the past weeks about the actor, I thought it was time we got to know the new vampire on the block a little bit more. ...

Alex Kingston Joins 'Upstairs Downstairs'

The runaway success of 'Downton Abbey' has led to big shakeups at rival PBS period drama, the rebooted 'Upstairs Downstairs.' Following news that co-creator Eileen Atkins has quit the series, comes the announcement that 'ER' and 'Doctor Who' star Alex Kingston has signed on for a major role in the upcoming season. The BBC announced that Kingston will play the younger sister of Atkins' character, Lady Holland, the racy-sounding archaeologist Blanche Mottershead. "I simply couldn't resist the opportunity to get inside the iconic 165 Eaton Place," said Kingston, adding that Blanche is "a wonderfully, intriguing character ... who will over time reveal some secrets of her own."...

Food Network Renews 'Alex's Day Off'

Chef Alexandra Guarnaschelli probably won't have too many days off next year, as Food Network has just renewed 'Alex's Day Off' for a second season. According to Variety, the show has received a healthy 13-episode order, with production scheduled to begin on Jan. 11. The new episodes will begin airing in April. Guarnaschelli is the executive chef at New York City's famous Butter restaurant, an instructor at the Institute of Culinary Education and food TV star in her own right. She has competed on the network's 'Iron Chef America' program, where she went head-to-head with Chef Cat Cora in a farmer's market battle. Guarnaschelli has also served as a judge on 'America,' as well as 'Chopped' and 'Food Network Challenge.'...

Alex Trebek and the case of the missing horse

No, it's not a Harry Potter adventure. The answer is: "This well-known TV game show host was recently sued by a woman who delivered a horse, now missing, to his home." And the question is "Who is Alex Trebek?" The Jeopardy host is being asked to either deliver the horse to the woman suing him and Creston Farms or reimburse her. The horse's name is BeBe Trando, which would make a great character name for the next Star Wars movie. Or should I say "was" BeBe Trando, as a horse by the name of BeBe was put down on March 2. The woman however says that the description of that horse doesn't match her BeBe. Sounds like a case for Columbo or the CSI team. (Note: horse pictured is not the horse in question. Though it's the same Trebek.)...
