House: House Divided

(S05E22) So, what's going on inside House's head? We left off last week with House getting a surprise visit from a very dead Amber and she's still around this week, running rampant and unchecked through his life, an eerie hallucination from House's subconscious. For a while it looks like House is onto something good, he has a direct link to the inner workings of his mind, which helps him solve cases and plan bachelor parties. But, that all comes crashing down when the Cut-Throat Bitch (as she was affectionately nicknamed) tries to kill Chase....

House: House vs. God

(S02E19) Wondering if House could ever stop being so cynical? Wondering if House could go one week without making a comment about Cuddy's breasts? Wondering where Wilson went since he's not staying at House's anymore? Well, wonder no more, true believers. All this, and more, has been solved this week, and wrapped up into an episode that wasn't even cut short by a long-running American Idol. Talk about testing your faith. The challenge this week is a 15-year old boy who happens to be hit with chest pains while "faith healing" a woman who can't walk without a walker. In one of the more ironic scenes on this show, the boy is struck down just moments after declaring no need for doctors when one has God. And you knew House would have a field day with this one....

House: House Training

(S03E20) It's funny this episode came along when it did, because in just the last week or so, I've said to a few of my House-watching friends that it had been a bit since we had a big tragedy on the show, and sure enough, here we are. The title of this week's episode, "House Training," is a curious one, as what went down wasn't as much about the value that House adds to his friends' and colleagues' lives, but how they're trained "with him" or "by" him, even indirectly. Additionally, Cuddy gives House the business with a laugh-out-loud quote about how now that Wilson is playing with a toy in the sandbox (her), now he wants it too. Ouch. We also got to see Foreman's mom and dad make an appearance, and at a very critical time in his medical career. Between the effective killing of a patient and needing to learn how to give grim news, along with the sadness of his mother not regularly knowing who he is, Foreman has a lot to think about right now. Interestingly to me was that his father didn't bring up God, his...

House: House's Head

(S04E15) Do you remember what you were doing on May 16, 2004? Think hard, it's important. Seriously, that information could determine exactly how you feel about tonight's episode. On May 16, 2004, The Sopranos aired an episode called "The Test Dream." Tony, reeling from an impending separation and problems in Mafia-town, went a little funny in the head and spent most of the episode engaged in the longest, most weirdly symbolic dream sequence in the history of television (until, that is, the show broke its own record two years later). If you remember, fans of the show were pretty angry; my father, for instance, shot out his screen, Elvis-style. Anyway, I'm going to guess that you either loved that episode or hated it. How you felt about it probably informs how you felt about tonight's House. My own feelings about it are simple......

House: Forever

(S02E22) Gregory House is right up there on the list of people I want to be. There's something to be said about pulling off that whole "likable jackass" thing. That and the flawless even-length beard stubble. I'd say that I've found a new hero... but that would mean setting aside Jack Bauer and I think most people will agree with me that I'd be in for a good ol' butt kicking if I made Jack Bauer play second fiddle to House on my list of TV heroes. Well, on to the episode. Well written and incredibly funny as usual. I always feel bad when I laugh as House makes a joke at the expense of a cancer patient or an elderly woman... but I suppose that's the beauty of it. Anyway, Foreman is back at work but the team is still one short since Chase requested some time away from House to work in the NICU for a few weeks. House doesn't seem to think it's because of him though. Naturally, he snoops around but that wasn't the only thing on his radar....

House: Joy

(S05E06) Maybe it's just me, but one of the things I love best about House is that the writers often use the medical mystery as a parallel for the mini dramas occurring between House and his staff. Last week, with "Lucky Thirteen," the patient's fate actually coincided directly with Thirteen's, because the two women were lovers and were, briefly, both dying. This week, the patient(s)' symptom of sleepwalking was synonymous with House and Cuddy both sleepwalking through their desire for each other, and their waking to that desire paralleled the successful treatment of the patients. I really liked the parallel structure of the dual plot points, even though I thought it was a little obvious. One of the things that keeps me hooked on House is that even when they do obvious, they do it pretty well. "Joy" was a great episode because there is a lot to unpack. And let's face it-one of the joys of House is peeling back the good doctor's layers....

House: Unfaithful

(S5E15) "You're a wuss. Part wimp, part puss." -House to Wilson We get yet another religious patient this week. Father Danny, who is running low on the big F, ends up in Cameron's ER after getting a late-night visit from Jesus. House initially grabs the case as a way to mess with Foreman and Thirteen, but it turns out that Father Danny might have a real problem. We've explored religion before on House, but this one of the times when it hasn't worked so well. Father Danny's lack of faith is a good opportunity for Taub and Kutner to engage in a philosophical debate, about God, faith and the nature of suffering, but this all feels like ground the show has covered before....

House: Locked In

(S05E19) Before we jump into an excellent episode, can someone please tell me what happened in the last minute of this episode, right after House stepped into the elevator and his vision began to get all blurry? It looks like Fox ran House a minute or two later than normal, once again, because my DVR cut off right in the middle of House talking to Wilson. Did anyone else have this problem? Or is it just time for me to get a new DVR? Regardless of my minor technical glitches, this was an almost flawless episode that turned the focus back onto medicine and patients, while artfully weaving in the personal stories of the main characters....

House: Painless

(S05E12) This episode was a perfect teaser to what House fans can look forward to for the rest of the season. It was well done, though not excellent, and set up a couple of key narrative threads that are sure to be slowly unraveled as we move forward. This week's patient's comes to House courtesy of Cameron, who insists that the team help a man suffering from severe chronic pain that has no known cause. It's gotten so bad that the patient, even with a beautiful wife and kid, tries to kill himself. Multiple times. While his kid is watching. Yeah, it's a bit brutal....

House: Insensitive

(S03E14) Cuddy's got a boyfriend, Cuddy's got a boyfriend. Oh, wait, spoke too soon. Love was in the air this week during House, but perhaps not in as positive a manner as one might expect. Well, then again, this is House. With Valentine's Day coming this week, we should have seen it coming that the creators of this show would take this opportunity to not only set up Cuddy on a blind date, but create a little drama between two one-time players and a climax of drama with two others. You asked for character development, and you got it. While this episode spent quite a bit of time focused on a young woman's medical condition, one that had House intrigued not because he likes solving cases, but because it could have some potential for "fixing" his little pain problem....

House: All In

(S02E17) Whether it was House chewing a stogie in the lobby of a hospital, his strange ability to read everyone else at the poker table, or his interest in what appeared to be a child in need of serious medical attention, I can't say much more about how much I dig this show. When a young patient comes in after a bout with bloody diarrhea (on that list of things I thought I'd never mention in a blog), our anti-hero hops up from a hand of poker at which he's got the table beat with pocket aces. At the least, Wilson's flipping of his pal's cars was to give us a sense of how grave House felt about the situation - or how interested he was in seeing what it was all about. As it turns out, it was another of his hang-ups. First, we had Stacy. Then, we had the guy that got him tossed from school for cheating. Now, House finds himself in a situation to treat someone who has a similar malady to a woman who died a dozen years ago, and he's not going to let this one go away....

House: Distractions

After the end of House's love interest this season, we're quickly reintroduced to what this show is really all about. Taking drugs. Okay, seriously, this week we get into the nitty gritty details of the case files that come across House's desk. A teenager and his father are riding an ATV as the show opens, and the son manages to convince his dad to let him drive the vehicle, even though he's not supposed to. Who needs foreshadowing when you already know that something bad is definitely going to come of this. The boy seems to have a strange sensation as he takes the handlebars, and is quickly flying down the road at well over the speed limit his father set for him. The man is launched from the ride just before his son hits a turn too fast, crashing the ATV and being severely burned in the ensuing explosion. Of course, this brings him and his family to the hospital where our master diagnostician works....

House: Family

(S03E21) Well, what a tangled web has been woven on our favorite doctor show now? "Family" was the title of this week's episode, and the prospects of a different family were essentially the topic of discussion for everyone involved. After last week's horrible course of events involving Foreman's decision to give chemotherapy to a patient only to have her die as a result, you wouldn't have thought that the team would go down a similar road without pondering the consequences, would you? Wrong. Well, not so much that they "didn't look before they nuked," as was said during the show, but they were put in a unique position of having a marrow donor (the younger brother, Matty, to Nick, the kid who underwent the radiation treatment) who just so happens to show up to help out when he sneezes in a clean room. What ensued was nothing more than out of control and utterly frustrating. And that's just about House's experience with Wilson's old dog. [Possible spoiler below if you haven't watched the show yet!]...

Dr. House Incites a Riot in the Big House on the 'House' Premiere (VIDEO)

You didn't expect Dr. Gregory House to take his incarceration quietly, did you? As widely reported, the eighth season premiere of 'House' (Mon., 9PM ET on FOX) had the not-so-good doctor wrapping up his first year in prison for driving into Cuddy's house and then fleeing the scene. Here we got to meet Dr. Jessica Adams, who's the doctor there.
