CBS Renews 'Survivor,' Jeff Probst Signs New Deal

CBS has officially picked up 'Survivor' and renewed its deal with series host Jeff Probst. Looks like this means Probst won't be replacing Regis Philbin. The new deal sees 'Survivor' on the network for the 2011–2012 TV season, with Probst as host of season 23 and 24. This follows the similar deal Probst signed in 2010. "'Survivor' is a program franchise that continues to stand the test of time," Jennifer Bresnan, executive vice president of alternative programming at CBS, said in a statement. "Each season delivers new faces, exotic places, the ultimate social experiment combined with game play, and one of the most engaged audiences anywhere on primetime television." Probst's name entered the race for the empty 'Live' seat after filling in for Philbin on several occasions. That's pretty unlikely to happen now, unless Kelly Ripa is comfortable sitting next to a screen for long periods of time....

Survivor host Jeff Probst won Best Reality Host last night, but the big news was when he told reporters that The Amazing Race has already won for Best Reality Competition Show seven times and should take itself out of the running! Was Jenna Fischer Really Married by 'Survivor's Jeff Probst? (VIDEO)

It's one of those stories that certainly sounds like tabloid fodder. That's why Jay Leno had to check if it was real when Jenna Fischer was on 'The Tonight Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM on NBC). "I heard that you got married by Jeff Probst, the 'Survivor' guy," he said. "Now is that a tabloid thing or is that real?" The story isn't as funny as some of the images Leno concocted of Probst running some kind of 'Survivor' church. Instead, it was simply a matter of Fischer and her then-fiancé Lee Kirk wanting to be married by someone they knew. When they heard that their friend Jeff Probst could do it, they booked him....

Jeff Probst Wants More 'Survivor' (But Not Too Much More)

When 'Survivor' host Jeff Probst renews his contract, it's usually for two years (which comes out to be four seasons of the show). But when he renewed his contract with CBS and the show last week, he only renewed it for one year (two seasons). I'm not sure if this is because he doesn't want to commit to several seasons of the show or if it's a negotiating/contract thing. Could 'Survivor' continue without Probst as host? Or is he too big a part of the show? 'Survivor: Heroes & Villains' debuts on Thursday. ...

What Happened on 'Survivor' Last Night (Video)

In what Jeff Probst called the "scariest moment on 19 seasons" of 'Survivor,' contestant Russell Swan collapsed twice and appeared to be on the brink of death. He was the second 'Survivor: Samoa' player after Mike Borassi to be medically evacuated. After the Galu tribe leader blacked out, Probst declared, "This challenge is over, neither tribe wins reward" -- making it the first time in 'Survivor' history that a challenge was unfinished. And though both teams were sent to tribal council to vote someone off, Probst informed them that everybody would be safe -- this week. Watch Russell's injury moment from TV's Top 5! after the jump ......
