Dragons' Den: Two Million Viewers Can't Be Wrong

Who'd have thought a show about investing would attract millions of viewers each week? Ratings for 'Dragons' Den' hit the two million mark this season, which puts it right up there with 'Hockey Night in Canada'. Season 4 wraps up in December, but the Dragons aren't wasting any time launching the next round: season 5 kicks off in early January. The show's five judges, Arlene Dickinson, Robert Herjavec, Kevin O'Leary, Jim Treliving and W. Brett Wilson, have become some of Canada's most recognized business executives. We sat down with Arlene, Brett and host Dianne Buckner to get the scoop on the goofiest pitches ever, armchair Dragons, and what's in store for season 5....

My eulogy for According to Jim

This will be the last season of According to Jim, and I will miss it. Not because I liked the show, or even watched the show (I did see one episode while waiting on line at UPS and then decided to never watch it again), but because According to Jim has been the target of all my jokes about the lack of quality network television for virtually as long as its been on the air. If you care about such things, then spoilers follow about the series finale....

What happened to Jim Belushi?

I remember when I was a young man many years ago, watching a short-lived sitcom called Working Stiffs. I was enthralled with a very young and talented comic-turned-actor named Michael Keaton but even more so with the man who played his brother, Jim Belushi. Since I was really just a kid, I was unable to be a real fan of John Belushi. Sure, I had heard about some of the stuff he did on Saturday Night Live and my parents talked about him a lot, but I was just too young to grasp his genius at the time. Jim, however, was a different story. ...

Jim Belushi goes dramatic

Former According to Jim star Jim Belushi is moving to a drama series. He's been tapped to star in a legal drama created by Murphy Brown mastermind Diane English and Homicide and Oz exec-producer Barry Levinson. The show is loosely based on the memoir "How Can You Defend These People?" by TV commentator and lawyer Mickey Sherman. This is an excellent way for Belushi to wash the stench of According to Jim from his person. If presented as a dramedy (much like many of the popular dramas today), this could be a winner....

The Office: Jim should go for it with Karen

Jim put himself on the line with Pam last year. That didn't work out; he transferred from Scranton. (Who knew that the Stamford office would also be full of loonies? But that only makes it more credible that either branch might be the one forced to close.) Kudos to the writers for finding a way to put off the number one killer of sitcoms -- the hooking-up of long-unconsummated lovers. Jim appears to be the guy in the office who can't get through the tedium of a day without a little sexual tension. Who can blame him, when the other choices are pushing paper products or team-building exercises gone wild?...

Dresden Files: Jim Butcher interviewed

Sci Fi has had a good run of it lately. With the continued success of Battlestar Galactica and the Stargate franchise, and the surprisingly high rated debut of Eureka earlier this year they are becoming known for their original programming. Next up is The Dresden Files, which holds the potential to join those two in their successes. The series is based on the popular series of books by Jim Butcher (pictured), and while we are still almost a month out from the debut, there is already a lot of discussion about the show on the internet. There is an active forum over at jim-butcher.com and the Dresden Files LJ Community to get you started....

Jim Gaffigan is funny

If you didn't catch Jim Gaffigan: Beyond The Pale on Comedy Central, you should try and catch it again this Saturday because Jimmy Gaffigan is a damn funny man. You might recognize him from his appearances on Conan and Letterman, but he's also appeared in several commercials and movies (he's the confused man who gets "meowed" at in Super Troopers and was seen most recently in a series of television spots for Sierra Mist along with Michael Ian Black and other comedians). Gaffigan uses a lot of the same observational humor as other comics, but with a quieter, more surreal approach. He kicks off Beyond the Pale with a hysterical bit of meta-comedy in which he pretends to be a woman in the audience commenting on the performer on stage. Eventually this turns into an impression of the woman complaining she can't understand what he's saying because his impression is too quiet. Gaffigan has a perspective on things that is almost extraterrestrial; he's both one of the oddest and smartest comedians I've seen....

According to Jim on DVD. Yippee.

Hey, let's all mark our calendars, because it's a big day in the TV world. Now all the people who aren't watching According to Jim on TV can not watch it on DVD. Season one of the ABC comedy (it's a comedy, right?) will be released on Oct. 21, 2008. It's part of a deal ABC Studios inked with Lionsgate Home Entertainment to distribute select titles on DVD. Season one of Reaper is next on Nov. 4, followed by Boy Meets World (which was discontinued in 2006), Hope and Faith, and 8 Simple Rules. That's interesting, because I've got Season one of 8 Simple Rules here (no, I didn't buy it, a publicist sent it to me), and it's from Buena Vista Home Entertainment. So Lionsgate must be taking over distribution....

Jim Is Sick on 'Kirstie Alley's Big Life' (VIDEO)

Kirstie Alley doesn't have much patience. To be fair, her "chubby buddy" Jim was being pretty annoying on last night's 'Kirstie Alley's Big Life' (Sun., 10PM ET on A&E). Watch the video after the jump....

Ghost Whisperer: The aftermath following Jim's death

Many of you were pretty vocal after watching last week's episode of Ghost Whisperer. Based on the comments left to my "Reactions to Ghost Whisperer's big twist" post, it was clear that the majority was not pleased with Jim's death and a lot of you claimed you would never watch the series again! My guess is that many of you tuned in this week anyway to see what would happen to Jim. Would he cross over? Would he stay in between? Would he wake up and discover it was all a dream? Would he find a way to be alive again? Sadly, the answer, for now, takes the form of actor Kenneth Mitchell....

Sneak peek at Pam and Jim's wedding on The Office (tomorrow!)

The event that all of us hopeless romantics have been waiting for is almost here. On this Thursday's one-hour episode of The Office, titled "Niagara," Jim Halpert and Pam Beesly will finally tie the knot. Their big plan was to have the wedding at Niagara Falls, so that no one from the office would be able to make it. Unfortunately, Michael gave everyone the time off to go to the wedding. Bad for Pam and Jim. Great for us. I'm one of those people who's been patiently waiting for this day to happen. In fact, it ranks right up there with Luke and Laura on my list of most anticipated TV weddings. Ever since Jim planted a big smooch on Pam after Casino Night (season two finale), my heart's been all aflutter for these two. Sniff ... I knew they'd be walking down the aisle (or whatever they have at Niagara Falls) one day. After the jump, check out seven sneak peek clips straight from AOL's awesome video site, SlashControl....

Jim Belushi: brainwashed and naked

Well, maybe. Rick Ross over at Cult News is reporting that Jim Belushi's new book, Real Men Don't Apologize, may borrow from the teachings of a controversial guru named Justin Sterling (real name, Arthur ''Artie'' Kasarjian). Sterling runs an expensive seminar where the main focus is that gender roles have become confused, with women becoming more masculine and men becoming more feminine. Personally, I thought this theory was a load of horse hockey until last night when I inexplicably gave birth to a baby girl. Apparently Sterling was really onto something. Anyway, naysayers dismiss Sterling as being misogynistic, and teaching that a woman's only goal in a relationship is to garner power and resources. Men, on the other hand, marry for love. Again, I say that's a load of bull, and only describes four out of my last six relationships (but I kid). Anyway, the most interesting (or terrifying) thing to come from this is that apparently these seminars end with the men stripping naked as part of a ritual and...

Jim Belushi Is Willing to Do Yoga for the Paparazzi (VIDEO)

What is Jim Belushi doing in the photo to the right? Is he stretching? Practicing a swan dive? Trying to hide George Lopez's face from the camera? None of the above! In fact, Belushi is showing how he gets his picture snapped by the paparazzi. On 'Lopez Tonight' (weeknights 11PM ET on TBS), the host revealed a photo of Mr. Belushi diving to the ground. George asked what was going on in the picture. "Are you breakdancing?" he said. It turns out that Jim lives in a busy Hollywood neighborhood -- Jennifer Garner, Noami Watts and Jessica Biel also live there, and the paparazzi are constantly trying to take candid shots of the actresses. But they're not so excited about Belushi....

Beau Bridges Becomes Jim Rockford's Daddy

The cast for NBC's 'Rockford Files' reboot just keeps getting cooler. Dermot Mulroney has already been cast as the titular P.I., and 'Dollhouse' and 'Firefly' star Alan Tudyk will play Jim Rockford's cop friend, Detective Dennis Becker. Now, add Beau Bridges to the mix, as the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning star will play Jim's father and BFF. Bridges, who earned an Emmy nomination for playing Jason Lee's dad on 'My Name Is Earl,' will co-star as Rocky, a truck driver who is not only his son's best pal, but the dispenser of (sometimes unsolicited) advice on Rockford's cases....

Jim Carrey hijacks Today show

I wish I would have seen this so I could have a better perspective on it for you but, alas, I do not watch the Today show if I can help it. So, I'm just going on an article and a slideshow here. On Tuesday, when Katie Couric was outside interviewing Bonnie Hunt about her new movie, Cheaper by the Dozen 2, Jim Carrey appeared in the crowd and hijacked the whole segment. Jim had been on the show earlier, promoting his new movie, Fun with Dick and Jane. Of course, he's a funny guy and he made everyone laugh. It was probably pretty darn funny and the crowd looks like they just went nuts when he started interacting with them. He gave crowd members hugs and dug through the toy box. Luckily, Bonnie Hunt is a true class act. Once she realized the cameras had all turned to Jim and his mugging, she joined in with him and started dancing around the staging area. Oh well, it was probably more interesting than yet another interview about yet another movie opening over the holidays. [Via TV Newser]...
